Greetings!

We received a great response to the first Massage & Bodywork Centers e-newsletter.  Thank you! This month we will continue sharing information to help you make healthy life choices, introducing you to therapeutic options that reduce anxiety and manage pain and discomfort, and letting you know about upcoming events at Massage & Bodywork Centers.

This month we're taking a look at the 2nd Chakra, Cranio Sacral Therapy, and Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage.  Please feel free to contact us if there are any specific topics you would like to see in upcoming e-newsletters.

What's New...
Massage & Bodywork CentersPlease join us in celebrating the second anniversary of Massage & Bodywork Centers this month. We have you to thank for our success today. As a thank you, we're offering half price on Reiki Sessions and Cranio Sacral Therapy with Dorothy through August 31. What better way to celebrate than trying something new or getting a great price on a treatment you already enjoy?

Soon we will be offering a new technique- dry skin brushing. This technique helps detox lymph glands, stimulate collagen, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Watch for more information about this new treatment coming in late summer/early fall.

We will also be introducing a ladies massage training workshop soon. We hear time and time again that women find it difficult to get their partners to take care of themselves. This will be a perfect opportunity for you to learn how to treat your partner to a massage and teach him how to take care of himself.

Finally, we are very excited to announce that Massage & Bodywork Centers, along with Kaleidoscope Angels and Thrive Yoga, will be offering special events on the 2nd Saturday of each month, August through December. Each month we'll be offering specials, bringing in guest therapists, and having lots of fun.

CranioSacral TherapyCranio Sacral Therapy

I received my Cranio Sacral training through the Upledger Institute in 1997 and have been integrating it into my work ever since.  I have seen what it can do for a variety of issues.

Cranio Sacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on, healing therapy that complements the body's natural healing processes, bolsters resistance to disease, and helps treat a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction. It is increasingly being used as a preventative health measure.

Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics.

Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams - about the weight of a nickel - I am able to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

Few structures have as much influence over the body's ability to function properly as the brain and spinal cord that make up the central nervous system. And, the central nervous system is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system - the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord.

Every day your body endures stresses and strains that it must work to compensate for. These stresses often cause body tissues to tighten and distort the flow of craniosacral rhythm, which causes tension to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions.

Fortunately, such restrictions can be detected using simple methods of touch. With a light touch, I can evaluate the craniosacral rhythm and then use soft-touch techniques to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the craniosacral system.

By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body's ability to self-correct, Cranio Sacral Therapy is able to help alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment.

Cranio Sacral Therapy addresses the following conditions:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Colic
  • Autism
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Scoliosis
  • Infantile Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
  • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
  • Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Lomi Lomi Hawai'ian MassageHawaiian Beach

Lomi Lomi is the term used today to describe Hawai'ian Massage. Lomi Lomi literally means 'to rub', 'to knead' or 'to work in and out'. Sacred Lomi weaves ancient practices with heart-centered and powerful teachings to create a complete system of hands-on bodywork.

The long continuous, flowing strokes, combined with a very loving touch is physically relaxing. Lomi Lomi releases stress and tension, helps the flow of blood and lymph, and eliminates wastes and toxins.

But what makes Lomi Lomi unique is that it also addresses emotional issues. The Hawai'ians view all aspects of the body as one and believe that the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual are all part of the "whole" self, so healing on one level will positively affect all levels. Lomi Lomi helps relax your mind by allowing you to let go of old beliefs, patterns and behaviors that cause limitations.

Although people generally think of memory and beliefs as being stored in the brain, they are actually stored in all the cells of the body. The Hawai'ians look at things in terms of energy flow, following the premise that an idea or belief can block energy flow as much as muscle tension can. When harmony is lacking the effect is pain - physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.

A Lomi Lomi session begins with authentic Hawai'ian music, followed by a moment of stillness as I quietly recite a blessing in the native Hawai'ian language, asking for whatever healing is needed to take place during the massage.

Then I work very intuitively with your body. In this respect there is no set format or sequence for the massage and no two massages will ever be identical.  Because I work intuitively, a massage may be slow and very relaxing or at times it may be a little faster and therefore more invigorating and enlivening to the body.

I use the soft tissue of my forearms in fluid, rhythmic motion. Some people have described this as feeling like gentle waves moving over the body. Another feature is that different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time.  For example, one arm may be working on a shoulder and the other may be working on the opposite hip. This assists the recipient in totally relaxing as it is impossible or at least extremely difficult for the brain to focus on the two different areas at once.

This massage technique combined with various audible breaths often creates a moment of transformation, which can release and shift negative emotions, negative beliefs and other "stuff" that has been stored in the cells of the body.

The healing effects of a Lomi Lomi Hawai'ian massage often continue long after the massage is over.

I have been a practicing Lomi-Lomi Hawai'ian body worker for more than seven years.
