Social Events at Wausau Downtown Airport

Pilots and other aviation enthusiasts have plenty to do at the Wausau Downtown Airport.  Above, a typical "Burger Night."  Every Wednesday evening during the warm months, you are welcome to come and grill your own burger and share the great weather and stories - some of them are even true!  The food is provided for a donation.  Burger Night is a fair weather event, but Saturday morning breakfasts go on year round at Rick Coe's hangar at the west end of the ramp.  Everyone is welcome.

Local pilots make occasional trips to Iola for the famous Friday lunch put on by the Central County Flyers Association.  A small contingent attended in June.  Our next outing is planned for July 20th.  Need a ride?  Contact Wausau Flying Service and we'll try to help.  We meet at 10:30 for an 11 o'clock departure.Central County AirportLunch at Iola

Pilot Companion CourseWoman
If you are not a pilot but you are a frequent passenger in general aviation airplanes, you may wonder what you would do if the pilot is incapacitated.  On August 4, 2012, Wausau Flying Service is offering a free course to address that situation.  We will cover how to control the airplane, how to use the radio, how to find a place to land, and more.  Call us to register for the free ground school.  And if you decide you want hands on training in the air, we will be happy to help.

Class E Airspace

Airspace

Wausau Downtown Airport is located within Class E airspace, which means it has different weather requirements than some nearby airports that are Class G from the surface to 700 feet.
Pilots who wish to operate under VFR at Wausau should remember both the basic weather minimums of a ceiling 1,000 AGL or greater, and visibility 3 miles or greater, as well as the cloud clearance requirements of 500 below, 1,000 above, and 2,000 feet horizontally.

Did You Know? There are many people who dream of flying but don't know how to take the first step.  If you are a pilot, remember how you got started and share the experience with a friend.  If you are not a pilot and you want to experience flight in a small airplane, Wausau Flying Service offers scenic rides and "Discovery" flights at affordable prices.  There are gift certificates available, as well.

America is one of the few countries where average individuals can enjoy the freedom and pleasure of private aviation.  If you want to learn just how cherished this is, just visit AirVenture in Oshkosh between July 22nd and 29th.  But be careful - aviation infatuation is infectious.
