Welcome to Wausau Flying Service
Greetings!
It's here at last - better weather for flying! At Wausau Flying Service we see the changes every day. More hangar doors opening, more airplanes in the traffic pattern, more pilots scheduling lessons, flight reviews or just stopping in to chat with our staff. Our slogan is "Flying Service With A Smile." Stop in and visit - popcorn and smiles are free! And if Grace the Labradoodle barks when you enter the building, just say, "Gracie, it's me!" She welcomes everyone the same way.
Thank you for your business in the past. We look forward to serving you in the future. |

New Airplane Owners
 | | Happy Aviator |
Howie and Sue Rice are the new proud owners of the Cherokee 140 previously owned by Ned Markey. (Ned has purchased a Cessna 210.) Both Howie and Sue are working on their private pilot certificates. They look forward to making trips from Wisconsin to the Finger Lakes area of western New York.
Tom Turner, who received his private pilot certificate recently, has purchased a beautiful Cessna 182 with the G1000 glass panel. Tom has been flying it frequently to build time and experience. Tom did much of his training in Florida before finishing with Wausau Flying Service and taking his checkride with Duffy Gaier in Marshfield. His beautiful airplane is staying in one of our community hangars.

Know Know Your Airspace
One of the areas CFIs find confusing for many private pilots are the airspace designations and weather requirements. Wausau Downtown Airport is in Class E airspace, which requires you to maintain three miles of visibilty, and 500 feet below, 1,000 feet above, and 2,000 feet horizontal clearance from clouds. Sound confusing? The practical application means we must have a ceiling (broken or overcast clouds) of at least 1,500 before we can fly our normal 1,000 AGL traffic pattern at Wausau. Remember that you can request (it will never be offered) a Special VFR clearance to enter or depart Class E (or C and D) airspace if you can maintain 1 mile of visibility and clear of clouds. Don't ask for this if you are a student pilot, and if it is night, you must be instrument rated and flying an airplane that is instrument equipped and certified. Who would you ask? In our area, Minneapolis Center controls the airspace. The frequency is 124.4. |
