Industry And Government Regulations Top Annual Meeting Topics
The 61st Annual Meeting of Rural Telephone, dba Nex-Tech, was held April 20 at the Lakeside School Gymnasium in Downs where Ventriloquist, Nick Levendofsky, along with Elmer, welcomed guests. Early bird door prize winners were drawn and then the meeting was called to order with a greeting from Board President James C. Harries. Nex-Tech's 2011 activities and financial reportwere presented through a news video created by the media staff. Board Secretary/Treasurer Ron Rahjes gave a report from the nominating committee, followed by the election of Trustees. Trustees elected to three-year terms were: Phyllis Weller of Hill City, representing Zone 1, including the Lenora, Jennings and Hill City exchanges; Douglas Ziegler of Grainfield, representing Zone 3, including the Grainfield, Gove, Collyer and Quinter exchanges; and Peggy Chrisler of Russell, representing Zone 9, including the Russell exchange.

Seniors Awarded PRIMO Scholarships
Two seniors from area high schools were chosen as recipients of $500 scholarships from PRIMO (Public Relations Independent Marketing Organization). Founded in 1992, PRIMO consists of marketing and public relations employees of independent telecommunications companies throughout Kansas and the surrounding states.

Osborne Senior Awarded Scholarship
The $1,500 Bob Adkisson Scholarship is presented by the Western Telecommunications Alliance Foundation, Inc., to children of parents who are employed by a Western Telecommunications Alliance member company, and who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, integrity and commitment to education.

Hays Student Selected For National Telecommunications Scholarship
Emilie Taylor, a 2012 graduate from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays, was selected to receive a $2,500 academic scholarship by the Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED). Sponsored by Nex-Tech, the award is based on merit and demonstrated commitment to rural life. FRED will send the awarded scholarship to Kansas State University on behalf of Taylor.
