Golden Plains Receives FRED Technology Grant

Evidence continues to mount about the importance of technology, especially for rural areas to participate in the global community. As much good as technology does for a business, it has an even greater impact in the schools. Nex-Tech has a long history of supporting local schools, with equipment and services, as well as cash donations. One other way Nex-Tech can help a school is by writing a letter of nomination for grant opportunities available through the telecommunications industry.

When Golden Plains USD #316 applied for such a grant in 2011, Nex-Tech provided the required nomination letter. FRED, in cooperation with the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative (RTFC) created the Technology Grants for Rural Schools program to help meet the need for innovative technology in the classroom. They award grants in the range of $1,000-$5,000.

How cool is that?

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is

"Hello, this is Susan from XYZ Travel. I am calling to inform you that you have just won an all-inclusive trip for two to the Caribbean! All I need is $200 for administrative fees. I can take your credit card number now."

RED FLAG! You don't know this company, they want money upfront and they are asking for your credit card information. These are classic indicators of a scam.

How do you protect yourself?

Nex-Tech Launches Distracted Driving Program for Youth

For 20 years, Nex-Tech has been providing educational programs for area youth. Our latest program, DWD Kills... W8T 2 TXT (Driving While Distracted Kills... Wait to Text), focuses on texting and other forms of distracted driving.

"Calling, texting and checking Facebook... these are all things we do without thinking. It's second nature. Just something we do," explains Jacque Beckman, Nex-Tech's Youth Services/Community Development Coordinator. "But when we're behind the wheel, these habits can have immediate and deadly consequences. We want to get this very important message out to our communities, especially to the students: Driving While Distracted Kills...Wait to Text!"
