Golden Plains Receives FRED Technology Grant
Evidence continues to mount about the importance of technology, especially for rural areas to participate in the global community. As much good as technology does for a business, it has an even greater impact in the schools. Nex-Tech has a long history of supporting local schools, with equipment and services, as well as cash donations. One other way Nex-Tech can help a school is by writing a letter of nomination for grant opportunities available through the telecommunications industry.
When Golden Plains USD #316 applied for such a grant in 2011, Nex-Tech provided the required nomination letter. FRED, in cooperation with the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative (RTFC) created the Technology Grants for Rural Schools program to help meet the need for innovative technology in the classroom. They award grants in the range of $1,000-$5,000.

Just something we do," explains Jacque Beckman, Nex-Tech's Youth Services/Community Development Coordinator. "But when we're behind the wheel, these habits can have immediate and deadly consequences. We want to get this very important message out to our communities, especially to the students: Driving While Distracted Kills...Wait to Text!"
