MPFC Virtual Hangout - Safe Space Discussion for LGBT Military Families
Sun July 8th 16:00 - 17:00 ET
Join MPFC and our coalition partner, SLDN, as we invite SLDN's Legal Director, David McKean to update us on the various litigation efforts happening in the courts right now. Bring your questions about the status of DOMA, what benefits we are eligible for right now, and gain some firsthand knowledge about HR 6046, the brand new bill introduced today by House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA). The Military Spouses Equal Treatment Act of 2012 (MSET) would change the definition of "spouse" in four areas of U.S. Code related to recognition, support, and benefits for married service members and veterans, making these families eligible for key benefits. Make sure you call in or join us via videochat so you don't miss this important event!

MPFC At Pride
Parade reflection:
"I feel so honored for my family to have been part of the first DC Pride Parade following the Repeal. To hear the cheers of support as our section marched by - cheers that grew in volume and excitement when they realized we were military partners and families - was truly a special experience. This will surely be the most meaningful Pride experiences I've participated in as it was the first one where we could fully participate with Pride. Thanks MPFC!"

We really have come a long way...
MPFC's journey began at the Pentagon where the co-founders were called to testify before the Comprehensive Review Working Group on the potential outcomes of repealing the DADT policy. None of us had ever met in person before that day and the mantra that emerged from the daunting task before us became "Love is worth it." Love was worth facing the fear, taking the risk, and making our voices heard. Less than two years and a lot of blood, sweat and tears later, we were invited as guests to attend the historic Pentagon Pride Month Event. While we acknowledge that we still have further to go to achieve parity for all service members and their families, in this moment we were able celebrate this enormous victory and wear our pride on our sleeves.
