2012: COSMIC UNION
XXI, The Universe
Thoth Tarot Deck
Happy New Year to ALL!
Happy New NOW!
No matter what your outer worlds and environments reflect, even if it seems dark and fretful, the truth is this:
You are now standing on the threshold of fully realizing who you really are, shedding the old skin of ego's projections and stepping into the freedom of Unity Consciousness.
In truth, you are already FREE,
and you are already ONE.
Dear Readers, after shuffling the deck and focusing on the question, "What does 2012 hold for us?", I was guided to draw the above card from the tarot deck. How perfect, to draw The Universe, XXI, the very last card of the Major Arcana, to reflect the meaning of stepping into this year that has been talked about, written about, and prophesied about for decades.
Here is what Gerd Ziegler, Tarot: Mirror of the Soul, says about this card:
"....The final goal is reached -- the return to the original Cosmic Oneness. Now you see yourself and the world as it really is (the Eye of Horus in the upper right). All garments and masks have become superfluous and useless because you are at one with your original nature. You are whirling, caught up in the perpetual dancing motion of the universe. The boundaries of the small "I" dissolve in orgasmic union with the universe.
The nude woman dances the dance of liberation. Through the Eye of Horus she has seen into the nature of limitations. With this insight (symbolized by the sickle she still holds in her right hand), she cuts through the web of ensnarement. Even the gigantic serpent of transformation has lost it's function. The energy has been transformed and a new quality exists. The serpent has outlived its usefulness; there is nothing left which its poisonous bite could destroy. The four cherubim blow the all-pervading spirit in all four directions. 'See, all is new!' "
And more from Angeles Arrien, The Tarot Handbook:
"...This figure represents the completion and integration of great inner work which has involved unifying polarities, oppositions and paradoxes within oneself. The Universe represents the triumph of negation and the experience of Nirvana or union with multiple parts of self.......With the sickle, the figure cuts through limitations and restrictions and weaves them into a net to dance upon. In order to become free and more individuated, it is important to simultaneously let go and move forward. Like the regenerative diamond-back serpent, we are required to transform before we can experience new worlds....Change requires that we grow and evolve like the spiral hair-do of the figure, and that we expand our awareness like the diamond-shaped halo.
The pantheon at the bottom is the Greek symbol for the home of all the gods and goddesses. When we fully express our totality or full individuality, we have the experience of being at home within ourselves.
The four animals in the corners of the card represent the four elements.....it is important in order to fully express our natures that we express ourselves physically (Taurus, the bull, Earth), spiritually and creative (Leo, the lion, Fire), emotionally (Scorpio, the bird, Water), and mentally (Aquarius, the human face, Air)."
Many years ago, I attended a workshop led by a very wise man, Ken Carey, the author of several wonderful books including his classic, The Starseed Transmissions. He shared many pearls of wisdom, but the one message that has stayed with me all these years is his answer to an audience member's question, "What is enlightenment?" Ken Carey replied, "Enlightenment is the acceptance of oneself in any given moment." I view this card as representing the result of the acceptance of all parts of self and the Whole Self, or Essence Self, emerging as an active agent in the Universe and living or BE-ING ONENESS.
Can I get an "Amen!"?
As I said at the beginning of this article, if you are currently feeling mired in chaos/darkness, I invite you to take comfort in remembering that as you embrace and accept all parts of self, both positive and negative, as you transcend this duality, it can be a very bumpy ride, and the toughest part is in the final stages of letting go. "It's always darkest before the dawn" and.....
Dear Ones, the dawn is upon us!
