EnergyEnergy Demand and
Your Bottom Line

As the hot summer months loom, Southern California Edison (SCE) will be visiting the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce at Wake-Up Moreno Valley in April. SCE will share ways that businesses can save energy and money through Integrated Demand Side Management strategies and programs. These include reducing overall electricity use through energy efficiency technologies and shifting electricity demand whenever possible to off-peak times, when those kilowatts they do use are less expensive.

Moreno Valley businesses are welcome to attend, enjoy breakfast, and learn how to lower their energy bills and the ways SCE can help. Pre-registration is not required.

firefighterruizDavid Ruiz Recognized as Firefighter of the Year

Firefighter of the Year

David Ruiz

Moreno Valley's City Council, City staff, and Fire Chief Abdul Ahmad recognized Firefighter II David Ruiz as the Firefighter of the Year for the City of Moreno Valley at a City Council Meeting held on March 13.

Firefighter Ruiz is currently assigned to the Sunnymead Fire Station as a Firefighter II on Truck 2. During the presentation of the Firefighter of the Year Award, Fire Chief Ahmad reflected on a recent incident where Firefighter Ruiz's skills were utilized for an over-the-side traffic accident off State Route 60. Two patients from this incident were located in a ravine that was 75 feet below the roadway. Firefighter Ruiz was instrumental in the rescue of these patients and during the ascent out of the ravine, he was speaking constantly to both patients, providing them with reassurance that they were receiving the best care possible.  Click here to view the full press release.

spayneuterHelp Reduce the
Number of Stray Pets

As a matter of public safety, the City Council has approved  a new City ordinance designed to reduce the number of stray dogs and cats in the City while addressing the root cause of pet overpopulation.

If you are found in violation of a local or state animal control regulation, you will be required to have your pet (dog or cat) spayed or neutered.

According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) having your pet spaed or neutered helps the pet, the pet owner and the community.  As a pet owner you no longer have the worry or obligation to find homes for that litter of puppies or kittens.  Too often these litters end up in a shelter once they become difficult to handle or repeat the breeding cycle and their litters become homeless.   Spaying and neutering companion animals have a positive impact on the community as a whole by reducing the pet overpopulation problem.  Be part of the solution.

Responsible pet owners in compliance with all state and local laws are not affected.  There are several exemptions to the law.  To see if they apply to your animal or for more information on the Spay/Neuter Ordinance  click here.

libraryservicesThe Value of Library Services

Can you put a price tag on library services? Obviously, many public library benefits are not quantifiable. However, the Massachusetts Library Association developed a calculator for estimating what the retail cost would be for many basic library operations. Using our actual use statistics for FY 2010/2011, the table below illustrates what a tremendous value the City of Moreno Valley receives by operating the Moreno Valley Public Library.

As shown above, the dollar value of services received is more than eight times the budget allocation. This is truly a remarkable value.

March is Women's History Month. Come into the library and pick up a new bibliography on women's rights, feminism, and more. See the special display of materials available for checkout.

The library is located at 25480 Alessandro Blvd. and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit the library web site at  or call 951.413.3880.

cameraCitywide Camera
Surveillance System

The City of Moreno Valley has approved the funding for a Citywide camera surveillance system to enhance public safety.

In an effort to educate the community, the Moreno Valley Police Department will be holding several meetings to explain why and how the camera system will be used.  Input will be solicited from residents and a question-and-answer session, will be included.

The City of Moreno Valley Police Department is hosting a Citizens Advisory Meeting on April 25, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.  The meeting will take place  in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Public Safety Building, which is located at 22850 Calle San Juan De Los Lagos.
