Arusha Gemmologoical & Jewelry Training Centre

In September of 2011 Ginger and Roger travelled to east Africa. Part of our mission on that trip was to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Roger had met Mr. Peter Salla who directs the Arusha Gemmologoical & Jewelry Vocational Training Centre in Arusha, Tanzania. The Centre's needs were great.

Roger felt the first place to help was building up Mr. Salla's collection of gemological reference manuals and textbooks. Thanks to the generosity of many in the trade we collected a selection of books; some of which are no longer in print. Many are gemological textbooks that will be helpful in a teaching environment. The book donations filled a suitcase to the limit. We delivered the books last September.

The generosity of those in the trade was so amazing that Roger has another suitcase of books that he will be delivering when he is in Arusha this week. The suitcase is double the weight of his personal suitcase for a week!

Thanks to Vic Hellberg of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mark Mann and Dona Dirlam from GIA Carlsbad for making these donations from GIA possible.

When we were in Tanzania last September our good friend Orin Mazzoni documented the entire trip. He just completed this video of Mr. Salla and the Arusha Gemmologoical & Jewelry Vocational Training Centre.
