Out of Africa - Part 2

We were greeted each morning with a magnificent sunrise and a parade of animals leaving the waterhole after their breakfast.

The Massai people are beautiful, colorful and happy. They were friendly and often westernized. We were amazed at how many wore tribal gear and also carried two cell phones. Often one cell plan is better for making calls and another for receiving calls, hence two phones!

African Rough Purchasing

We traveled to a small mining village. This trip took three hours each way. Have I mentioned the roads? Roger looked at color change sapphire and other gem material the locals found over the past few days. On the right is Orin Mazzoni from San Francisco who filmed our adventure.

Later in the day we were in Mwatate. Here Roger had an even better outdoor office, our Land Cruiser! The locals came up to the car with their goods!

The first green grossular garnet has been cut. This type of grossular garnet is typically called Merelani Mint Garnet. It's a 2.14ct step cut square. Stunning!
