Active Healthy Kids Canada releases 2011 Report Card on Physical Activity

Active Healthy Kids Canada issued its 2011 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth on April 26, and for the fifth year in a row, Canadian youth received an "F" for physical activity levels.  According to the report card, only 7% of children and youth get the recommended 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.

Chiropractors and Pharmacists in a Family Health Team: Unlikely Allies

This case report provides an example of the overlap of scopes of practice between pharmacists and chiropractors, and offers some insight on the value of team-building skills that facilitate collaboration. The chiropractor and pharmacist in this example have been co-located within a Family Health Team for more than five years.

 

OCA Supporting Collaboration 
Advocacy Day at Queen's Park

 

On April 12th, the OCA held its annual Advocacy Day at Queen's Park. OCA representatives, including Riding Designates participated in 13 meetings with MPPs. Meetings focused on the benefits of current chiropractic collaborative initiatives, including chiropractors working in primary health care teams and hospital triage roles. In addition, OCA recommended that chiropractors be given access to MRIs and diagnostic ultrasound, select lab tests and hospital X-rays to enhance the quality of patient care, increase patient access, eliminate unnecessary health system costs and increase physician capacity. MPPs were asked to support the OCA and its partners, CMCC and CCO, on this regulatory recommendation if it comes to caucus and

to write a letter of support to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

 

After the full day of meetings, MPPs and political staff joined OCA riding designates, board members and staff for our annual reception. Over 40 MPPs and political staffers attended the reception, including the Minister, The Honourable Deb Matthews. The Scientist Knowledge Translation Training course was developed on the premise that scientists are agents of change in creating research impact, promoting research utilization and ensuring their research findings reach the appropriate audiences. There is a skill set surrounding KT practice, and it is these competencies that the training course is designed to impact.
