Hello!
I have a hard time relaxing. This is not a startling statement to people who know me well, but the truth is I have a hard time just doing nothing.
Here I am, taking a break from work, relaxing at the cottage ... and yet somehow relaxing doesn't come easily to me. If I'm not biking, I'm cleaning. If I'm not cleaning, I'm cooking. Then there is grass to cut, spider webs to wipe down, newsletter to write, and sandy floors to be swept. Why can't I just take a good book and spend the afternoon down at the dock, and not feel guilty about it!!??
I know, intellectually, that down time is good for me, even required to improve my work performance. But, at a gut level, I somehow don't believe it. I also know that my Law of Attraction teachings tell me that negative emotion of any sort, especially the type I am feeling while not working, will NOT make this down time beneficial for me.
Am I the only one who feels this way? I need to turn this around.

Why Can't I Relax?
I have a hard time relaxing, sometimes even wanting to relax, because I have a belief that says I justify my existence through hard work. I grew up with a father who never missed a day of work, and had an extremely strong work ethic. In short, I am my father's daughter. I equate results with hard work and I wear my hard work like a badge of honor. I have absolutely no doubt that this characteristic helps to make me a good entrepreneur. However, this entire "struggle" is opposite to feeling good, which I believe is at the core of me being truly happy and successful. See my dilemma?
"I must work while on vacation. The cottage must be kept clean. I must exercise every day. My mother wants to spend quality time with me, my daughter wants to play in the water and the dog needs to be walked".
If I succumb to working on my business, I feel guilty. If I do anything but work, and there is work to be done, I feel guilty. Aughhhh!!!! Can anyone else relate to this?...

Keeping a Gratitude Journal
One of the things I can do during my downtime that helps me not feel so guilty is to write in my Gratitude Journal (that's the book you see on the lounger beside me in the picture above).
A Gratitude Journal is a great way to give attention to all those things you have in your life that you are grateful for - family, friends, money, job, clients, etc. The more you write in your journal and focus on what you have and love about your life, the more of those things you will attract to you.
So, grab a journal and hit the lounger! Soak up some sun, relax and start REALLY working by attracting more of what you want into your life through gratitude!
