SC Johnson, Briggs & Stratton to address Focal Point 2012
Will Archer, manager for global sustainability at S.C. Johnson & Son, and John Mourand, corporate environmental and sustainabilty director at Briggs & Stratton, will present at Focal Point 2012: Capitalizing on Sustainable Technology. S.C. Johnson is a leading maker of household products, while Briggs & Stratton is a leader in manufacture of lawn mower engines and small engines.
Focal Point 2012 will demonstrate how some of the region's leading companies are developing and adopting new technologies that are more sustainable and which contribute to their bottom line and competitiveness. Sustainable technologies are those aimed at sustainable development, or step-change advances aimed at reducing the material, energy and environmental impacts of production processes or products which at the same time give their proponents production differentiation and competitive edge.
The conference will showcase examples of renewable energy and biofuels, innovative use of renewable raw materials, resource efficiency, new product ownership models, and biocatalysis applications.
The complete slate of speakers will be announced in July.
Previously announced speakers for the conference are Kevin Hansen, technical manager at ERCO Worldwide; Andrew Held, senior director of feedstock development at Virent, Inc.; Kelly Rooney, director of recycling for Veolia ES Solid Waste; Jeff Williams, president of Lucigen; and Kristine Young, sustainability manager for Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc.

Courses on business modeling, green chemistry on schedule for August
John Leschke, assistant professor of entrepreneurship at UWSP, will present Business Modeling, a workshop that introduces this easy, yet powerful, method for identifying, prototyping and evaluating new business opportunities. The full-day course is set for Aug. 10 at UWSP. The course fee is $600. More information is on page 11 of this WIST Education prospectus.
Robin Tanke, a UWSP professor of chemistry, will present Green Chemistry, a course for professionals who work with chemical processes and want to learn applying the principles of Green Chemistry to their work place. This half-day course at UWSP is Aug. 23 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The course fee is $425. More information is on page 10 of this WIST Education prospectus.
