Managing Micro-loads with a Buffer Tank

My how hydronic heating and design have changed over the past 5 years! Remember when a wall of zone pumps was the height of cutting edge design? 2 mixed temperatures were cool but 5 were even cooler? Zone valves were for dinosaurs. You had to size the pump for every zone valve being open but they never seemed to all be open at the same time. As a matter of fact, it always appeared that half of them were always closed. So we had to make sure we included one of those pressure bypass valves, with the funny dial handle, in our designs to protect the pump from dead heading and to keep the velocity noise down.
