2010 Year In Review
Blue Mountain Clinic was voted "Best Health Clinic" and Dr. Ravitz was voted "Best Doctor" for the 3rd year in a row in the Missoula Independent's reader's poll "Best of Missoula" awards.
In February of 2010 we held the third annual Off the Rack, with over 50 fashions and 600 cheering attendees. Off the Rack is Blue Mountain Clinic's signature fundraiser.
Blue Mountain Clinic recently completed our five year strategic plan, and are grateful to have had the opportunity to reflect on where we have been, and look forward to where we want to go. Particularly with such significant changes as electronic medical records and health care reform on the horizon, it is more important than ever to have a guide to help us navigate the transitions. |
ASKMAP
In July of this year BMC's Montana Access Project launched ASKMAP, an SMS (text) and web-based hotline to provide information on sexual health, education and resources. Users can send or text a question confidentially and anonymously and get answers and resources from a clinical professional using a technological medium that helps reduce shame and embarrassment.

Testimonials: True Stories From Real Patients "The level of comfort presented to me at Blue Mountain Clinic was unbelievable. What our society portrays abortion to be and what the actual procedure was really like differs greatly in so many ways. I can't thank the staff at Blue Mountain Clinic enough, they turned what I thought would be a cold and impersonal procedure into a comfortable situation about my personal choices, thoughts and feelings. Thank you so much, I will be forever grateful!"
"The staff at Blue Mountain Clinic are awesome! You all have made a difficult decision more bearable. I drove 3 hours to get here and am so glad I did. I have no regrets, thank you all for your loving care."
"What an amazing experience. Thanks to the staff, nurses, and doctor for being such amazing people. I was taken through this experience with grace. Thank you for your dedication to giving women and families the ability to choose what is right for them. Women can stay strong thanks to how you run this clinic. Thank you for empowering us in this way!" |

Direct Perspective By Anita Kuennen Executive Director
 More than any year in recent history, 2010 will be remembered for the roller coaster health care reform efforts. The promise of real reform shifted to defense posturing on protecting women's access to reproductive health care with the exclusion of funding for abortion care. Reproductive health care is primary care for women, and without full access to preventative and medical services, opportunities to address primary health care needs for the community's underserved population will not be met.
BMC board, staff and stakeholders engaged in a three year strategic planning process and finalized the directional goals in March of this year. Key areas of focus over the next five years include:
· Implementing electronic medical records and practice management system;
· Obtaining funding and grants to enable the clinic to purchase discount contraceptives and pass the savings on to our clients (340B designation);
· Advocacy on the local, state and national level for health care policies that promote access to care, and oppose restrictions;
· Providing accurate education on healthy sexuality through outreach efforts and text message helpline - ASKMAP and Off the Rack;
· Increasing visibility of BMC as a locally based, nonprofit, primary health care clinic that embodies social and reproductive justice.
The goals for BMC over the coming years are ambitious, however, the stakes are high and protecting reproductive justice and access to health care has never been more critical. The 2011 legislative session promises to challenge us with reproductive health policy restrictions and other anti-choice driven bills. We welcome your support this year as we buckle up for the roller coaster of protecting access to care. |
