My thoughts this morning are somewhat sporadic. We at the EDA have been hitting the pavement a lot and working to bring great things to Jones County! With so much going on, I want to share with you a few different ideas and things I have picked up in our travels. Hopefully some of these items will spur thoughts and interest for you. Enjoy!

With high school football well underway and the professionals finally back to work and ironing out their plans for the year, I am super excited to be kicking off SEC football this weekend. I like to use a lot of videos when talking to groups and making leadership analogies. Sports are a great equalizer for people to understand leadership roles. Whether you are good, bad, ride the pine or cheer from the bleachers, we all understand the concepts of sportsmanship, attitude, determination and heart. In preparing for an event I ran across this video and it speaks to the heart we all need, not only in sports but in our businesses as well. Many times we find obstacles in front of us that seem impossible. A lot of times if we put our head down and plow through the "pain" we surprise ourselves how much we can accomplish.

While at our Southern Economic Development Council annual meeting, this little video (and the two others that accompany it) won a communication award. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce commissioned these videos to reach local high school students. The goal is to engage students in their education and the hobbies and interests they already have and help them understand how through doing the things they like to do, they are actually harnessing talents that could turn into a great career. How creative!

With the 10th Anniversary of September the 11th (9/11) approaching, I think it is fitting to take a moment and remember those we lost on that fateful day. Thank you to all the firefighters, policemen, emergency responders, military personnel, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, family and friends we lost that day. You will forever be missed but you will never be forgotten.
