Bring Someone With You...
What fun is a journey if you have no one to share it with? Robert Updegraff once said, "Happiness is to be found along the way, not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it is too late." What a true statement. How many times have you been a part of a building project, on a design committee or even on one of life's many adventures and at the end of the line, you look upon the work you've completed and realize the true accomplishment is not the end product but rather the simple triumphs and tragedies along the way? It was not the thing you created but rather the people who created it with you. People. Plural. More than one. Our greatest accomplishments in this life are meant to be shared. Either through personal interaction or through the retelling of stories and lessons learned in a written or spoken form with others. I encourage you to reach out and get involved in all the wonderful things happening in our communities. From local building projects and community improvement initiatives to church projects to school and civic fund raisers, there are a ton of entities in our community looking for willing workers and passionate volunteers. If you need help finding something to be involved in, let me know and I can help you find something that feeds your desire to participate. But more importantly than YOU being involved, share the experience. Bring someone with you. Recruit others to help, to be involved and to be an active part in the betterment of our community. There is nothing like opening the eyes of someone to new worlds, new experiences and the chance to reach new heights. Mentor someone in our community and do so through community service and involvement. There is a Chinese proverb that I love, and I leave it with you to inspire you to share your own passion for our community with others... "Not the cry, but the flight of the wild duck, leads the flock to fly and to follow."
