Copics News!
We received a notice that Copic is planning their second price increase since we started carrying the markers several years ago. We absorbed the first price increase without passing the increase on to you. I haven't seen what the 2nd price increase will be for retailers, but I'm hoping to hold steady on our price again this time. Right now, we charge $4.00 for Ciao markers and $6.00 for Sketches and the Original markers. Copic has announced that on August 1, their suggested retail price will be $4.79 for Ciaos and $7.00 for Sketches and Originals. So, just in case the price they charge me necessitates my raising the prices, you may want to add to your collection before the August 1 increase.
In other Copics news, our fabulous Certified Copics Instructor, Laura, is taking the new Intermediate Copics Certification course later this month! We're all excited because she will come back and share all of her newly acquired knowledge with us. Mark your calendars for her new class - Copics III - scheduled for June 27. We'll have all the details posted upon her return! |

Welcome Back, Dave!
One of our favorite guest artists, Dave Brethauer, is returning for one day only, Wednesday, August 10! Dave is the owner and designer of Memory Box Stamp Company. He is the creative genius behind their incredible papers and stamps - and now dies! I don't think Dave ever sleeps! He will be teaching his fabulous Colored Pencils Techniques as well as his Watercolor Workshop featuring the brand new Holiday What's in the Box collection of stamps and papers (coming in July). Sign up quickly as these classes always fill fast! |

More Memory Box!
If you just can't wait until August to take some Memory Box classes, plan to join Memory Box Design Team Member Laura for her two workshops on May 22. In her first class, Laura will be teaching tips and techniques for working with the new Memory Box dies. In her second class, she'll be teaching a fabulous photo transfer technique using Memory Box papers and canvas (pictured). I've been waiting for this class, because Memory Box papers are too pretty to put in an envelope! They need to be on the wall! And now they are! |

Bookbinding Bonanza!
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at bookbinding? Or, are you just ready for a great weekend of crafting? If the answer is yes to either one of those questions, then you are going to want to join us for the bookbinding retreat featuring Cami Purpura, at the shop, July 15-17. All her life, Cami has been a maker, mostly of paper things. Her love for quality paper and beautiful writing started at a very young age, when her parents bought her a calligraphy set to keep her occupied. From there she never looked back and developed a true love affair for paper arts. In 2005, she made it official and opened a store, Cami's Paperie in Purcellville, Virginia. It was during that two and a half years at the Paperie that Cami devoted herself to learning new book making and stitching techniques. Cami adores teaching, learning and especially just gathering with other "bookies" and showing them just how much joy there is in creating with paper, board and thread.
Cami's Paperie no longer operates a storefront. In March of 2009 Cami's Paperie transferred to her home studio which specializes in couture designer wedding invitations, limited edition handmade books and custom stationery designs. Cami is thrilled to regularly teach classes here at our shop, and her work can be seen in various exhibits and/or contests throughout the year. You'll certainly want to take one (or all!) of the nine never before taught bookbinding classes she will be offering during this exciting bookbinding retreat! Sign up for 5 or more classes and receive a special gift during the retreat weekend! |

Odds and Ends
We keep adding great merchandise to our sale table back in the classroom! Most of it is a whopping 50% off! You must check it out next time you're in the shop. And to make it easier to see, we've completely reorganized everything so that it's neat and tidy and ready to go home with you!
We've been having a lot of fun with the new Faber-Castell products that arrived last week! Apparently we are not alone! Check out the video by Jennifer McGuire that is posted on our blog (you may have to scroll down just a touch to find it). It will inspire you!
Don't forget, the Great American Scrapbook Convention is coming to Dulles Expo Center on June 24 & 25. Tickets are $12.00 at the door, but we will be selling discounted tickets for $10.00 here at the shop while supplies last. They are supposed to ship on May 13, so we should have them early next week. Feel free to send me an email or give the shop a call if you'd like us to hold tickets for you when they arrive! A little discount is always nice, and we appreciate your support of your local stamp shop! |

Save the Date!
One of our most popular guest artists over the years was Karen Lockhart. She is the owner and designer of the wonderfully whimsical Lockhart Stamp Company, and she creates all of the incredible card samples on display in the shop! She is the queen of colored pencil techniques, and she'll be back this fall sharing her techniques with us. I don't have class specifics yet, but I do know she'll be offering a beginning and advanced class as well as a class on stylus work. Grab your calendars and block out these dates: Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1. We'll keep you posted as we know more!
