for the Gourmet in all of us

Greetings!

Classic Grilled Cheese SandwichOh, boy, it's Grilled Cheese Month, yahoo - one of my favorites! I've included a recipe I've created, along with a couple of other folks' and some tips to make the best ever grilled cheese sandwiches. I like them most with the Garlic Oil, but all Oils add a delightful touch. And, I have to guess that a small drizzle of the Balsamic inside the sandwich will create a real WOW!

7 Tips for Great Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Breads

Tip #1: USE THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS

A hearty bread works best and cheeses that melt give you the yummy gooey consistency that makes a grilled cheese sandwich so heavenly.

Tip #2: COOK AT THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE

Grill the sandwich at a medium-low temperature in order to get the bread properly golden and crispy yet still melt the insides.

Tip #3: USE THE RIGHT SIZE GRIDDLE

If the griddle is too small, your sandwich won't cook evenly.

Cheese grated and sliced

Tip #4: GRATE OR SLICE

Grated or shredded cheese melts faster, but sometimes sliced cheese works best for a recipe.

Tip #5: SLICE WHEN COLD, MELT WHEN ROOM TEMPERATURE

Cheese slices and grates easier when it's cold. Then, bring the cheese to room temperature so that it melts more easily when cooking the grilled cheese sandwich.

Tip #6: MAKE SURE THE CHEESE IS SPREAD EVENLY

To make sure the cheese spreads evenly, press the sandwich with a spatula or grill press after flipping it.

Tip #7: FINISH THE SANDWICH PROPERLY

If the cheese doesn't get properly gooey, but the outsides are as brown as you want them, put the sandwich in a 400-degree oven for a couple of minutes.

Mmmmm, now I think I'll head to the kitchen and create another grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.

Keep cooking with oil...
