This Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. a Victorian Tea will take place at the Assembly Hall, Salem Five Bank, 210 Essex Street in downtown Salem, MA.
The Tea is a fundraiser put on by the Friends of Brookhouse on the occasion of Brookhouse's 150th anniversary.
Brookhouse was founded in 1861, the year the Civil War broke out, by Salem's leading merchants and their wives to care for their female domestic help after they had reached "a certain age." While some things have changed over time, the mission of caring for elderly women with love and respect, many of whom have no family and limited resources, has not.
The Friends group was established earlier this year "with a mission to provide opportunities for the enhancement of the daily lives of the Brookhouse women," and I must tell you that this mission is well worth supporting.
When the Friends Group asked me to give the address at their event I naturally said YES!
I can't wait to share and celebrate the founding of this wonderful organization that is still very much needed.
Tickets are only $35. If you can come, please do!
Be well, and be in touch!
