Greetings!
"You're the connector," a client just told me. "You really do have the ability to connect people like me to history, and I appreciate that." Wow. My client, who is the CEO of a financial services business, is a highly successful and generous corporate citizen. He regularly writes checks to support the local historical society and various preservation and conservation efforts. He is exactly the kind of client I love to work with because, as successful as he is, he wants to be part of something "larger." He wants to do "more." He wants to leave a legacy - and what he wants goes far beyond just writing a check. When I meet top-level people like this, the first thing I do is find out what THEY are interested in historically. I know one banker who is passionate about maritime history, a lawyer who is drawn to women's history and African American history, an accountant who is fascinated by the history of key industries in his city. Everyone is interested in some aspect of history, and what I love to do is find out what that is and then CONNECT clients to that passion to help their business AND brings them personal joy. What about you? How can I make a connection for you and your business? Let's brainstorm!
Be well, and be in touch!

P.S. Continuing with the theme of National Women's History Month, two articles about attracting women customers to life insurance and women's fashion businesses!

Why and How to Attract Women Clients to Your Life Insurance Company!
 | | Women at the end of their lives deserve to be secure and happy |
by Bonnie Hurd Smith
"Life insurance is really a women's issue," a friend of mine who sells life insurance said to me recently. My puzzled look invited him to continue. "If you think about it, women tend to live longer than men. What happens when a husband or father dies? What happens to the wife and her children?" Good points, I thought. He continued. "All too often, the conversation about life insurance that needs to take place has not taken place. The husband assumes one thing, the wife another, and because they haven't discussed life insurance honestly and openly she loses out after he's gone." Instead, my friend helps couples have the right conversation. He skillfully addresses husband and wife individually to get at the root of different viewpoints, needs, and assumptions. As a result, I imagine he's become quite the marriage counselor! More importantly, he has prevented difficult outcomes from occurring. (continued) |
Women's Fashion, Women's History, and Getting New Women Clients
by Bonnie Hurd Smith
Two very smart women I know who co-own a women's clothing store in my area just agreed to have me give a talk on local women's history for their customers. They will offer a discount for the day, and serve refreshments. We will market the event to both of our lists, and everyone wins!
What a terrific model for a joint venture that involves women customers and women's history!
What about your business? Do you have special approaches to reach women customers? What I described above is one method, but there are so many others! (continued)

If you're a nonprofit, you are also a business. Ask away! And if you're a historical nonprofit, do you have questions about how what we do can provide you with new revenue streams?
