Children's Book Week - May  5 -12
Drop in the Children's Department this week for Mother Goose activities in celebration of Children's Book Week!

Thursday, May 3 - 9:30 or 10:45 AM.  Preschool Story Time. Stories, finger plays and hands-on activities for children ages 3-5 not yet in kindergarten. Registration is requiredRegister for this program.

Thursday, May 3 - 3:30 PM.  Teen Advisory Group.   Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join the Teen Advisory Group. Help plan programs, give input about what books and materials to add to the collection, make friends, and have fun. We meet the first Thursday of the month at 3:30 in the Platinum Room. This program is free and no registration is necessary.
 
Saturday, May 5 - 10:00 to 11:30 AM.  Mother Goose Fun!  Kick off Children's Book Week with a fun drop in program with crafts, activities, and stories. Special Reader's Theater presentation at 10:45 AM. For all ages. Call children's desk for details. Sponsored by the Friend of the Moline Public Library. No registration required.

Tuesday, May 8 - 6:00 PM.  Iran and Israel: An Existential Threat? (Arab Israeli Conflict: Series Three) presented by Dr. Art Pitz Part 1 of 4. The series includes new topics generated from Dr. Pitz's travels to Israel and the Palestinian territories. In 2010, he spent a month in the Middle East, where he was briefed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, traveled to southern Israel near Gaza, and visited the West Bank and a Palestinian refugee camp.

Wednesday, May 9 - 7:00 PM.  Reader's Theater.  Join us for folk tales, fairy tales and stories in script form read by young readers. Call the library to be a reader - no registration required to be in the audienceRegister for this program.

Saturday, May 12 - 2:30 PM.  Hire the Future presented by Melissa Bruning of the Illinois Department of Employment SecurityA program specifically designed by IDES to help young adults between 16 and 24 years of age to gain the job readiness skills needed to increase their employability. Areas to be covered will include: completing applications; writing resumes and cover letters; preparing for interviews; and researching careers and the job market.

Monday, May 14 - 7:00 PM.  Teen Writer's Group.  Teen and Young Adult writers are invited on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. Bring a few short items to share with the group, get feedback, and learn some new tricks. This program is free and no registration is necessary.

Tuesday, May 15 - 3:30 PM.  Anime Club.  Teen and Young Adult fans of anime, manga, and all things Japanese are invited to the Moline Public Library the third Tuesday of the month at 3:30 for Anime Club. This program is free and no registration is necessary.

Thursday, May 17 - 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  We Salute You! Arsenal Appreciation Night.  An evening of recognition and family fun.  Events include information from our partners, special displays, oral history reviews, library card registration, crafts and activities for families and refreshments.

Saturday, May 19 - 10:00 AM.  Super Science Fun: Gizmos and Gadgets.  A fun exploration of simple machines - pulleys, inclined planes, gears, screws and more with the amazing "Tennis Ball Bowling Gizmo" Presented by the Family Museum in Bettendorf. No registration is required for this free program. Sponsored by Friends of the Moline Public Library and IEEE-Chicago Section as part of the Science Fun: Science Made Available to Everyone Science Kit Project.
