Pedestrians Count! 2012 is coming to Los Angeles on

May 3rd and 4th!

Peds Count! 2012, the second of its kind, will be held in Los Angeles on May 3-4, 2012. The seminar promotes pedestrian safety, transit access, healthy environments and sustainable communities coordinating cutting edge research. The seminar explores latest best practices in pedestrian data collection and analysis, with strategic community advocacy. Professionals, academics and community leaders will share their current and most promising work. More information coming soon.

Complete Streets for California 2012

Registration for Complete Streets for California is now open. This conference will take place on Friday March 2, 2012 at the Kyoto Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles.

                 SRTS and Traffic Reduction webinar

Communities initiate Safe Routes to School for a variety of reasons. In an attempt to reduce the barriers for students to walk and bicycle to school, some programs focus on reducing traffic congestion and the number of cars around schools.

 

This sixty minute webinar will take a brief look at the problem of traffic congestion as it relates to SRTS and then focus on two SRTS programs that have had success in reducing congestion and measuring traffic reductions.

Pedestrian injuries increased nationally nearly 20% in 2009-10. Fatalities were up over 4%. See the full report at

The CA MUTCD has been updated to add the word "maximum"  to the following clause:
 "A maximum walking speed of 3.5 feet per second for pedestrian clearance time shall be used at all signalized intersections on the State Highway System."

Take a walk with Dan Burden, and he predicts you'll never take a walk the same way again. Burden is a national expert on walkability and this "walking audit" was a joint effort by AARP and local nonprofit WALKSacramento.
