Greetings!
As promised, over the next few months, Tech Tips will continue to focus on computing tips that have been at your finger tips all along, but possibly never discovered.  While many of these tips will be helpful while navigating our MLS system, their benefits are realized throughout the Windows operating system.

The following keystrokes (hotkeys) are so closely related, that they easily form a logical progression:  (1) Select something, and (2) Perform a basic action on what you selected.

Ctrl + A (Control A):  SELECT ALL

While in a document or file (Word, Excel, a web page, a text file, an email, or any text window), to select everything, just Ctrl + A.  Immediately everything is selected.

Ctrl + C (Control C):  COPY

Whereas the Ctrl + A  selected something (everything), Ctrl + C copies everything that is selected.  There is only one purpose for copying something, and that is to later use (paste) it.  However, before we discuss the paste function, this is a good place to mention "cut".

Ctrl + X (Control X):  CUT

If you want to relocate something (text, a graphic, or a file or group of files), you can choose to "cut" it instead of "copy" it.

Ctrl + V (Control V):  PASTE

"Paste" completes the task, but leaves what was selected in memory - so you can paste multiple times.

There are times when you just want to trash everything in a document.  This can be accomplished quickly with Ctrl + A and DEL (the delete key on your keyboard).

One of the advantages of using the above hotkeys to perform these functions is that they can easily be performed with the left hand, while the right hand uses the mouse to direct the cursor to the desired location.
