During his keynote address at the BMA's annual conference Guy Kawasaki pointed to a unique group of brands that have "enchanted" their customers, ranging from ecommerce footwear retailer Zappos.com to the Grateful Dead. Kawasaki, managing director of Garage Technology Ventures and former software evangelist for Apple Inc., said the brands were built on three pillars: trust, likability and quality. How B2B marketers can bring all of these attributes to life was at the center of Kawasaki's presentation.

Bob Goranson was named the G.D. Crain Jr. Award winner earlier this month at the BMA's annual conference. The award, named after the founder of Crain Communications Inc., recognizes a BMA member for career achievement in B2B marketing and exceptional service to the advancement of the association at the national level. Goranson, partner-account planning and strategy at marketing agency Mobium, is a member of the BMA national board and former chairman of the BMA.

At the BMA Grow conference, Kathy Button Bell was named 2013-2014 chairwoman of the BMA. She'll serve as vice chair for the next 12 months. Bell, VP-CMO of Emerson Electric Co., spoke with BMA Buzz about her plans to grow the BMA as well as her role in helping to transform the 122-year-old Emerson - which originally sold motors - for the digital age.

BMA chapters take alternate routes to grow their memberships
At the BMA's annual conference BMA Buzz asked a trio of BMA chapter leaders what are their marketing priorities for the rest of the year and beyond. We spoke with Brian Bearden, programs co-chair of BMA Houston; Martine Hunter, president of BMA Atlanta and Jennifer Nealson, President-elect of BMA Colorado. Whether it is capitalizing on social channels or creating more localized events, the common goal among the triumvirate is to grow their memberships.

 Alas, poor email. We knew you well. Nearly 60% of B2B marketers perceive email to be the most effective channel in generating revenue, according to a new survey released by BtoB and Bizo. The survey, titled "The Maturation of Online Marketing," took the pulse of 326 B2B marketers about their marketing tactics. While email is now perceived to be the most effective marketing channel among a majority of marketers, more than 63% of respondents report that their marketing mix either doesn't meet sales demand or they're unsure of whether their marketing mix is effective. |
