Making A Difference
Natural Gas Lights Philadelphia

PGW LOGO

On February 8, 1836, the first municipally owned natural gas distribution company, Gas Works, lit 46 natural gas lights in Philadelphia.

The lights were located on Second Street.

Today Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is the largest municipally owned gas utility company in the United States as well as the Nation's largest liquefied natural gas storage facility. PGW maintains over 6,000 miles of gas mains and serves more than 500,000 private and 19,000 industrial and commercial customers. With more customers than any other municipally owned gas utility company in the U.S., Philadelphia Gas Works utilizes EWN services to keep approximately 900 of their 1,600 employees in compliance with the DOT/PHMSA/OPS 49 CFR 192 pipeline safety regulations.

ENERGY worldnet, Inc. is proud to partner with Philadelphia Gas Works. We offer congratulations for outstanding service to our client on this anniversary!
