Some of you will remember last year we got a VW camper. 1971, Hippy dippy, named her Aquarius
Mary was instrumental in acquiring the cute little bus.
Although it spent more time at the mechanic this year than on the road, I was in fact elated when we got her.
The story goes like this... We saw it parked at a Dunkin' Donuts. Mary aggressively went in to find the story on a parked old VW camper. Turns out it had broken down a month before, a gentlemen came in and asked if he could leave it there until he got it fixed, they hadn't heard from him.
She was convinced he wanted to find a new home for his little red camper. So much so that she opened the passenger door and checked the registration. Armed with the name of someone in Bangor, she drove to their house and knocked on their door. Long story short, we bought it for a good deal and got it fixed up pretty inexpensively. Before it broke down a bunch and I swore, I did in fact tell Mary I owed her one. She had been way more aggressive in getting it than I ever would have been, and consequently we can tool around in an old VW camper with the dogs.
When I told her I owed her one, within 1 day she came back to me and said she would cash that in. I have always avoided going to her professional conferences. In my defense, she is a nurse practitioner, and those human types are not anywhere near as much fun as vets. I suppose have a profession where you regularly smell puppy breath, get peed on and clean poop from your shoes keeps a person humble. Not that there aren't fun human health care providers...but you gotta throw me a bone on this. Mostly you guys get together and bitch about insurance companies and paperwork and how it used to be in the old days... Cmon, you know you do.
So anyway, Mary has a conference in SanFrancisco and I am meeting her out there tomorrow. Then we are going to rent a car and drive through Napa and Sonoma. ...and I'm thinking there might be wine in my future.
I am leaving you all in the capable hands of my amazing team of penguins. Dr. Pooler with be in Thursday and Friday. Dr. Bither from the Emergency Clinic will be there Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday will be a much needed catch up day for the staff. They will be on the phones to help you guys, and Lucerne will be covering any medical emergencies.
So I am paying back my debt to Mary. Selflessly. Poor me.
See you in a week. No one get sick.
