This year's Paws on Parade will be October 1, 2011 from 9 am to1pm in Beautiful Downtown Bangor.

Each year we put together a team to walk and raise money for the Bangor Humane Society.  This year will be no exception .

For those of your that are new to the list, Paws on Parade is an annual event for the Bangor Humane Society and it is an opportunity for us in the community to help the homeless pets in our area.

12 years ago the staff at the Bangor Humane Society called me to take a look at  a 6 month old kitten with a nasty eye infection that had caused this beautiful, confident long haired Calico to lose her eye.  I hospitalized her to remove the infected eye and sew the lids shut to prevent deeper infection.

When she was recovering from anesthesia, I walked in to the ward to check on her. She reached out , semi conscious, and batted me playfully with her paw.

Cmon...really?

One eyed kitten playing with the vet after losing an eye?  Of course I called the Humane Society and told them to pick up the cat immediately because it had woken up successfully from anesthesia and could continue to recover at the shelter.

 Alright, you got me.

I think it was more like I blubbered something about maybe I could take her home for  a few days to recover.

Like most of my pets, we are now "fostering" her for 15 or 20 years.

Since then, I have seen hundreds of pets placed in loving homes because of the existence of the Bangor Humane Society.  I have seen many people come and go as part of the organization, but it exists now as it did then to find forever homes for pets that need a second chance.

The current Board, Executive Director and Staff are fantastic and are carrying the torch exceptionally well.

So, Saturday October 1st we are doing it again.  If you are available that weekend, c'mon  out and join our team. If you are not, consider making a donation. I have set a personal fundraising goal of $1000.00 and a team goal of $5000.00

Whatever money we raise, I know the folks at the Bangor Humane Society will put it to good use.
