Last week I told you about my pie being a little light.
I underestimated how much a community can fill a guy's pie. Thank you all for your help and support this last week. Polly is doing a little better every day.
I believe deeply that what you give in the world is what you will receive. Call it karma, call it Law of Attraction, call it Golden Rule-ish.
Each one of you who stepped out of your lives to lend a hand are gonna get something good. The love and help were more appreciated than you can know.
I'm thinking of sending you a pair of turtles (if a box comes from UPS you better open it quickly this week).
So onto Kindred Spirits.
Life goes on, and this week we are ready to launch online access to your pet's records. Some of you may have seen the additional category on the website for "My Pet's Records". You can sign up for access to your pet's records online by sending us an email at
Please allow up to a week for us to process your request. Vicki, Donna and Erin will be helping you on this. This will allow all of you who want it access to your pet's records at no charge. You can upload a picture, make an ID card, check on vaccine status, see bloodwork results....its quite amazing actually. The thing that I am most excited about is that this will give the Emergency Clinic access to your pet's records on the evenings and weekends. But this is only true if you sign up and if you remember your username and password (put that info somewhere safe). Also, please communicate any questions or issues via email and not phone...more calls just mean more of you have to listen to Eva Cassidy...not that she isn't amazing.
Secondly, I am giving my first talk to the community that I promised you guys after I came back from the National Veterinary Conference. Opening for me will be Styx.
The topic is What's New in Infectious Disease
It will be at the Seadog Brewing Company from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday March 19th. This will be focused to the general public, so tell your friends. This is a free lecture, although donations to Friends of Kindred Spirits will be appreciated. (BTW, Mary and Kelsey launched the website this week. Check it out at www.friendsofks.org )
I will be presenting new information on three infectious diseases that affect pets in our area...Lyme disease, Parvovirus, and Methicillin Resistant Staph. Anyone is welcome to come, and if you would like to hang a sign at work, email me and I'll send you one to print out.
Next on the list...Bangor Humane Society is sponsoring a low cost spay/neuter clinic for cats on March 27th. Myself and at least two other vets...plus many people in the community will be volunteering to spay and neuter cats all day. Pet owners must show need and must register in advance. For more info go to http://www.bangorhumane.org/news.php
Last year we did this and spayed and neutered 90 cats in our community. The economy has affected many people and unfortunately that means that less cats are being spayed and neutered. This clinic will be directly responsible for curtailing the number of homeless cats in the future. If you know someone in need, pass this information on!
I have struggled in composing this email to give thanks to each person, because there were so many things that you all did that made a difference. No matter where I draw the line, there were people who helped who would feel left out. Clients, staff, neighbors, family, friends, all made this week a hell of alot better. I really felt more despair going into the week than I might have let onto you, my 1300 best friends.
But Mary's sister Janie wins the prize this week. She came up and took over the details since Wednesday, despite getting the flu.
For the rest of you, know that your dinners, your pies, your time, your prayers, your cards, your emails, your hugs and your positive energy will always be remembered by me and Mary.
