Green Tip

In the Laundry Room

1. Only wash full loads- wash more items together

2. Wash clothes in cold water - 90% of the engery per load goes to heating the water

3. Hang clothes up to dry - use Mother Nature instead of dryer sheets

4. Don't overdry - dry loads for shorter time periods or hang damp

5. Keep the iron off the board - they use energy and deteriorate clothes. Fold clothes immediately after drying.

25 Years of Hope Seattle AIDS Walk

Aidswalk 2011

On Saturday, September 24th Irons Brothers Construction staff, family, and friends walked in support of the Lifelong AIDS Alliance Seattle AIDS Walk. With your support and generosity we raised over $1000.

Through the AIDS Walk, we are able to educate the community and raise awareness about the continued importance of fighting HIV/AIDS. The AIDS Walk also serves as the Pacific Northwest's largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser, with all funds supporting the HIV prevention efforts and basic care services Lifelong AIDS Alliance provides to the community.

Thank you again for your contributions

Design/Build - Why a Contractor & Designer Partnership is Key

kitchen remodel

Earlier this month, Joseph Irons presented information to a group of designers at the NKBA Design conference on the importance of the designer-contractor partnership.

It is critical for your project's success that your designer and contractor are working hand in hand as a team

Here are a few tips on communication during a design/build project:

*Establish response times for emails and phone calls

*Determine the best method of communication for each person on the team, including you

*Ensure the designer and contractor are regularly updating one another throughout the design and construction process

*Know what questions you should be directing at the contractor vs. the designer

*Do not wait to hear from someone if a concern or question arises

Joseph polled local and national designers, architects, and contractors, for his presentation. He asked them,  "What are the benefits of working as a design/build team?"

1.Convenience - One Stop Shopping, Team Approach
2.Accelerated Completion - No Bid Process
3.Cost savings and realistic budget formation
4.Detailed Specifications & Drawings
5.Building - a design that will be built

In addition, the designer can:

*Bring interest, personalization, and enthusiasm to the project
*Help you visualize the end result
*Coordinate your material selections
*Discuss architectural, structural, or permitting concerns
*Provide documentation for building

Thank you for reading this month's newsletter. I hope you enjoy some of the Fall activities mentioned, I plan to. One of my favorite Halloween traditions is pumpkin carving. You may remember last year I actually put our infant in the pumpkin! Not sure my pumpkin is big enough for a 14 month old this year.

 Pumpkin carving fun

Remember one of the benefits of hiring our company is that I am personally involved in your project.
