Renew your Bathroom!

In this small lower Queen Anne Condominium, we maximized our client's space in his tiny bathroom by increasing the ceiling height and doubling the shower width. Custom cabinets, mirrors, shelving, and designer tile was also installed.

An Edmonds Amputee Receives a Free Wheel Chair Ramp

On Thursday May 12th, Joseph Irons and his team of volunteers started the demolition for the new wheel chair ramp. They concluded the construction on Saturday the 14th. This included the wheel chair ramp, some minor landscaping, and a small bathroom modification.

To coordinate and build wheel chair ramps, design and planning is required of the builder captain. This year 10 volunteers came together to build a ramp for Arlene to improve her freedom and accessibility. With this new ramp, she is hoping to qualify for a power chair to help her maneuver in and out of the house.

While the volunteers were onsite they also completed a small bathroom modification for Ms. Shields. The skilled carpenters from Irons Brothers Construction removed a large sink vanity, patched the wall, painted, and installed new trim. She now will be able to access this small bath and laundry room in her wheel chair.

Joseph and the staff at Irons Brothers Construction take their philanthropic work very seriously. "There is nothing more rewarding than using our skills to improve the lives of others," stated Joseph Irons.

This year's ramp was built from concrete and will be aesthetically pleasing to the eye and compliment Ms. Shield's home without even looking like a traditional wheel chair ramp.

Thanks to the Master Builders Care Foundation and all our generous donors and volunteers this ramp was built at no cost to the recipient.

Irons Brothers Construction would like to specifically thank the donors who our recipient's ramp construction possible:

  • The Home Depot Foundation

Gardening Tips:

  1. Old panty hose make great ties for plants and tomatoes. They's strong/flexible, but won't cut into your plant.
  2. Hands that are very dirty can be cleaned with a paste of oatmeal and water. Rub & rinse.
  3. Crushed egg shells worked well into the soil make a wonderful fertilizer. They aerate soil too.
  4. Plants love starch, so save the water each time you boil pasta. Just cool id down before pouring.

Happy Gardening!

Make Memories this Memorial Day!

Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day. Several of us will participate in family gatherings, picnics, and BBQ's on our day off.

Let's not forget to also take time during this holiday to honor and commemorate our memorialized veterans and service men and women.  Formerly known as Decoration Day, we first celebrated this holiday to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War and World War I. Memorial day is an occasion for visiting those who have served and died in the military.

You will see flags flying at half-staff until noon to remember the more than one million men and women who have given their lives in service of our country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living when the flag is lifted to full-staff. This is a symbol of rising up to continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.

"Investing in Remodeling Pays Off in More than Dollars"

Many homeowners are surprised to learn that the equity in their home comprises a larger portion of their net wealth than their stocks and/or retirement funds. Compared to conventional investments that rise & fall frequently, housing is relatively stable and keeps up with inflation in most years.

A home that is well-maintained and offers up-to-date systems and amenities will have a higher value than a comparable home that is poorly maintained or lacking the conveniences and extra living space that today's buyers want.

Remodeling is the key to protecting and enhancing the investment value of your home, not to mention its many other benefits.

"What improvements will add the most value to my home?" To answer that question, it is important to understand that remodeling differs from your financial investments. With remodeling you can benefit and enjoy your investment, (live in it) while it is growing in value. Stocks and bonds don't deliver on this aspect.

The other part of your investment return is the increased resale value of a remodel.  The price of your home will largely depend on the prices that comparable homes recently sold for in your neighborhood. The value assigned to the improvements you made to your home depends on a number of variables and heavily on its location and overall condition. Some remodeling projects lift the value of a home by the entire cost of the remodel and sometimes by even more.

 Living Room remodel

Consider these to increase the dollars you get back from remodeling:

·         Maintaining your home is the most critical of all investments that you can make to your home. The shape it's in matters as much if not more than what other attributes your home may have.

·         The quality of the work you have done on your home is another factor that can't be ignored. If you want to make a good investment, shoddy workmanship, low-grade materials and inferior products will wipe out any value the remodeling might have added to your home.

·         Remodel for yourself and your own family, not the next owner. It is a gamble to predict the likes and dislikes of the next home owner. However, the more your tastes stray from the norm, the less likely you are to get maximum return from your improvements. Stay with styles, colors and features that have broad appeal.

·         Kitchens and bath remodels are the two most popular remodeling projects year-in and year-out, no matter where you live.  These two rooms carry the most weight when it comes time to sell your home. Attractive kitchens and baths fully outfitted with popular features will not only help sell your home faster, they also can drive the price a buyer is willing to pay for your home.

·         Extra space in the right place offers a high rate of return. Larger, open family rooms, master bedroom suites and eat-in kitchens are all examples of spaces that most buyers value highly.

Although it is difficult to put an exact price on the resale value of a particular remodeling project, for most of us the real value of remodeling is the comfort and pleasure it adds to the years we spend living in our home.
