Weekly Empowerment from Source Point Training | April 7, 2011

Greetings!

So nice to be with you this week!  We hear from people often "Why am I not making progress towards something I am trying to accomplish?"    In this week's issue, Tommy shares a great little story with us and how we can tell what it is we are really committed to.  When we aren't creating the results we say we want, do we check-in with ourselves on what is our level of commitment and how do we know what it is we are really committed to.

Share your thoughts in My Source Point Community.  We would love to hear what you've learned about yourself after reading this issue and taking time to reflect on your commitments.  This is a place to give and receive support, coaching and feedback.  And the Source Point Training team is there along with a great community too!  So, if you aren't already a member, JOIN NOW!

Respectfully,

The Donkey in The Well

Author Unknown

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway, so it just wasn't worth it to try to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

 Donkey in Well

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.  Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!

Now, what does this story have to do with commitment?  I assert each of us has been like this donkey at some point in time - facing a goal that seems difficult if not impossible.  Then life starts serving up dirt to test our commitment to that goal.

What the donkey exhibited was an unwavering commitment to get out of the well.  Here's the evidence:

Commitment shows up in ACTION!  No matter how many shovels of dirt hit that donkey, he shook them off and took another step up to attain his goal of freedom!

Commitment shows up in our moment to moment choices over time!   That donkey could have gotten tired and given up in his quest for freedom, but he never did - he continued to choose to shake off adversity and step up again and again.

Results never LIE!  Results are always the evidence of our commitment - where we spend our time, energy and resources.  It is clear the donkey was committed to freedom based on his results.

What are you committed to today?  How do you know?  Look at your results - they are like a 'neon sign' pointing the way to what you are truly committed to.

And how often do we not use all of the resources available to us in accomplishing our goals?  How can Source Point Training be a resource for YOU?  Whether it is attending one of our upcoming trainings, making powerful requests for coaching or support in My Source Point Community or emailing any of the Source Point Training team, know that we are here to support you.  All it takes is a request - taking committed action - now!
