Building The Bridge As Your Walk On It - by Robert E. Quinn - is a wonderful book that talks about the power of intention and innovation. Too often we come from a place that if we have all the answers then we can begin taking action in our lives. What we really need is a clear purpose and vision and then JUST START walking. Here is a process that supports you in confidently building your bridge as you walk it.
Step 1: Set Your Intention
Get clear on your day right at the beginning. Take 5 minutes to reflect on your day. How do you want it to be? How do you want to feel at the end of the day? What is your vision of success? How will you be in relationship with others? What is the "experience" you intend to create? Allow yourself to become empowered and feel confident on the adventure that this day can bring. Focus on positive intention, not what you might be avoiding. Step 2: What Do You Want to Create Today? Review your priorities for the day. Be sure to include yourself and the time you will need to practice self care. Allow yourself some space between activities to minimize conflicts and getting behind. Look at each part of your day as a separate "chunk" of time with a specific outcome that you desire. That way you are able to step into each event and engagement with a purpose and the outcomes you want. It is like sorting the laundry before you start your day to get the best results. Step 3: How Will You Know?

Now - how will you know that you kept the focus on your intention throughout the day? What will be the evidence that you expect from having set your intention? For example: I will feel less stress. I will have participated in a meeting and provided collaboration and teamwork. I will have learned something new about the project I am working on. I will have had the time I wanted with my family today. Step 4: End of Day Reflection/Check-In Take a few minutes at the end of your day to check in with yourself. How did the day go? How did it mirror your morning intention? Challenge yourself to look at your day from a neutral place. First look at all of the things that you accomplished. For those areas you saw some changes - what would they be? Look at the attitude that you held, your communication, how you managed your time to support your intention. Then let it ALL go. Lastly, acknowldge yourself for being willing to build the bridge as you walk it - and get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow is a new day! Practice this for 30 days and we promise that you will begin to see each day becoming the day that you intended it to be. We'd love to hear from you as you practice and learn.
