LEADERSHIP SOURCE NEWS

Leadership Source is coming to . . .  SALT LAKE CITY!

The Leadership Source
faculty has trained leaders consistently over the last six years. This
curriculum is delivered four times per year, and we are so excited to be bringing it to Salt Lake City for the very first time starting this April.

Key Learnings

  • Accelerated achievement of goals with outstanding results
  • Increased effectiveness in communication
  • Greater ability to build strong, trusting relationships
  • Clarity on individual life purpose
  • Vision with a commitment to leaving a powerful legacy
  • Commitment of being in service in ways that positively impact others

Leadership Source will challenge you to take massive action each day, aligning what you say you want, with who you want to be, as well as put you in touch with your authentic leader within.  It begins with a high-impact, two-day weekend (April 9-10) where goals are declared and leadership principles are explored. Over the next ten weeks, Leadership Coaches will work one-on-one to align with your agenda and goals. At the end of the ten weeks, you will return for a second two-day weekend (June 11-12) to review and celebrate, with your team, the profound lessons and changes that have occurred.

For the Record . . .

Setting the Course for the Future
By Barbara Fagan, Co-Founder & President
BF Head Shot

It seems that everywhere you look in our world today, people are declaring something new. Breaking away from old styles of leadership, technology and moving faster and faster into the future.  Speed seems to be king and there are so many ways to get there.

The SPT team sat down this last month as we celebrated all that had been accomplished in 2010 and looked to the future for 2011.  We really do work hard to practice what we coach. Looking at all that worked and what did not work and what changes we will be making as we move forward.  First and foremost, we acknowledge that staying connected and being in relationship with each of you is a top priority. We may not always do it perfectly - who does - but our intention at Source Point Training is to be a commitment to developing the next generation of leaders, coaches and facilitators committed to positive change.  That means being in relationship and partnership to play a bigger game together.

I shared with many who attended our Virtual Anniversary Party some of the things that we have in store this year. For those of you who might have missed it, here is a quick summary of what you can expect.

As the economy improves, many businesses are beginning to reinvest in their people resources again.  They realize that new trainings designed to empower their teams and create a more interactive coaching leadership model will support them as they move forward. We have talked about the value individually having a coach can make but more and more organizations are learning how to teach coaching to their leadership teams. This is where Source Point Training is providing more business to business custom designed leadership coaching.  If you are working for a company or have a company where learning to be a more effective leader means learning to coach your team more effectively, call on us!

This year we will be delivering bi-lingual trainings in different parts of the country. This has long been a vision of mine and today we have the team's commitment and more resources dedicated to delivering this type of training.  I believe as the demographics of our country change we must be responsive in providing the leadership and personal development tools to specific areas with a high Hispanic population.  If you are interested in helping us deliver trainings, please contact us to learn more about our plans this year.

We are in the final stages of publishing a set of books and tapes that can be used and shared with others to begin to expand knowledge and application of some of the fundamental principles we coach to.   Topics such as Accountability, Leading with Purpose and Vision and Living the Life You Love.  These are easy to read and have a high impact on keeping us on track to remember how to apply key principles iPhonefor success in ALL areas of your life!

Soon we will be officially joining the hand-held device world and we will have an APP for you. Yes, we will be working with some very creative people to design apps that you can use every day to stay on track with your purpose and manage your time in a way that brings greater fulfillment. As Lou always say - BE in the DRIVERS seat of your life!

These are just the high points.  I am continually honored to have the team of coaches, leaders and facilitators around us to open new possibilities for change.  Thanks for being part of the Source Point Training team.  Never before has it been more important to stay connected.

The Start of the Diva Conversation
Lou Head ShotBy Lou Dozier, Co-Founder
& Executive Vice President

I caught a bit of a Dr. Phil show about "housewives" (not certain which part of the country they were from) and they were calling a woman in their group a DIVA ~ in a singularly negative way.  She was loud mouthed, opinionated, closed, righteous, and difficult.  I thought ~ OH NO ~ That's not what I'm referring to when I call myself a Diva.  So, I thought it might be useful to create the context that I am speaking about.

Actually, this reference to me was started by my buddy, Barbara Fagan, because I have generated over the years an ability to create a fabulous environmnent, wherever I am, that supports me with tremendous ease.

My "travel karma" is renown, meaning that I rarely have delays, weather interruptions, cancellations, mechanical problems, etc.  I am a Delta flyer and my favorite seat is 1B ~ easy on easy off! I have favorite restaurants throughout the country where I have servers who are delighted to see me and in my fine dining experience, they too have a fine dining experience with me!  I love, love, love to be served.  When I visit Barbara, I sit at the granite counter as she whips up a fabulous meal ~ and I savor it as if it's the first meal I have ever had!  My husband is the cook in our home and I just so appreciate this. In my travels, I always create fabulous connections with people, out of my sincere curiosity in who they are.

I spent many years doing things out of duty, burden, and obligation.  I was constantly stressed, in that I didn't want to disappoint or make waves.  It was so important to me that people thought I was a "nice/good" person, that I found myself stifiling what was real for me.  Certainly, in my own personal growth work, I discovered the courage to "go for it" and find that I am so authentically appreciative and deeply grateful for all the abundance that surrounds me.

So, in writing this, I guess my Divaness is, based on intention, to do what I love and not to do what I don't! Hence, the birth of "Live the Life YOU Love!"  Join me at My Source Point Community and share your thoughts in the Diva Points Group.

THE SOURCE INSTITUTE
Why Relationship Training Makes Sense
TommyBy Tommy Ruff, Director
The Source Institute

Having recently completed our first Certified Relationship Coach training of 2011, what struck me again (as it does each time I participate in CRC), is how little training we - as 'human beings' - receive in generating real success in relationships.  The general 'drift' as relationships go is that this should be learned from our families of origin through some form of osmosis.  Now, this sounds good until you really think about it.  Most of us can remember things that both worked and didn't work growing up.  What most of us can't remember is any real accountability in looking at the results each member of the family generated and trying something different.

You know, I watched my mom drive a car quite successfully for many years.  In observing her, I learned much of what did and didn't work in both the mechanics of driving the car and maneuvering the car through traffic.  Upon turning 16, the state still Drivers Edexpected me to get a driver's manual, take a test, practice driving with a licensed driver, and prove to them (by way of a written and physical driving test) that I had learned the basic skills of driving before bestowing a license to drive upon me.  On the occasions where I demonstrated I was less than skillful at maintaining the rules of the road (code for excessive speeding tickets), I was sent back for additional training to successfully adhere to the rules of successful driving.

In life, there is no such support for the average person.  Most of the time we do the best we can, often operating off a script from childhood, and unconscious of why we generate the results we do in relationship.  In our recent CRC training, I was thrilled to experience some of the 'aha' moments that the coach's shared:

1)  Relationships with others are merely a 'mirror' of the relationship I have with myself!  What we believe about ourselves and what is possible in relationship will always be mirrored back from those around us.

2)  We are constantly teaching people how to treat us in relationships.  The way other's treat you is reinforced by what you are or are not willing to 'stand for' in relationships (helpful hint - refer back to item #1).

3)  The key to shifting all our relationships is to shift the relationship we have with ourselves.  Truly, the only person I can change is myself, so if I want new results in my relationships, the change has to begin with me (helpful hint - refer back to items #1 and 2).

These revelations seem so simple (and in reality, they are).  However, it is one thing to discuss these 'philosophically' and quite another to begin to own our relationship results and take new action.   Let's get real - with divorce rates and single parent homes at record highs, with the advent of school bullying leading to violence and death, and with approximately 50% of all people on the planet looking to connect via Internet dating sites, the evidence is clear - we could all benefit from some relationship training.

Join us for our webinar, Creating the Relationships You Want on Tuesday, February 22 to learn more about building intentional relationships.  If you are ready to step into Relationship Training, knowing it will benefit you both as a person and as a coach, join us for Certified Relationship Coach Training, July 28 - 31.  Register today!

LEADERSHIP SOURCE

Taking a Stand, Even in the Face of Uncertainty
By Kelly Mobeck, Director
Leadership Source

Never before in our lifetime has the value of leadership been more important, whether it is doing more with less or thinking in a different plane, to "thrive" in today's environment of uncertainty and risk.

The leader who generates committed action amongst their team, and has strong positive influence, is one who can make a decision and communicate their stand on an issue or action with an amount of certainty. They may not have all the information to make a "perfect" decision, but they understand the need for urgency and provide the best decision given what they know now. This does not mean they may not course correct later, if new information comes to them.  They trust in themselves to make shifts as new information is discerned. In essence, they trust themselves to be competent and able to make adjustments as they go, while knowing the "bottom line" decision must be made now, so that results are achieved.

Do you embody the following attributes of a confidant leader?

Self-Assured:  Leaders are confident in their good judgment and competence to call the game and are willing to be the one to call it. This attribute comes from experience and practice, and created through discipline and persistence.

Decisive: In the face of uncertainty, a leader knows that  someone must stop and make a decision, given the information available. Otherwise, nothing ever happens to move forward. This does not mean the absence of fear or doubt, because those are naturally occurring feelings that accompany making a decision without "all "of the information.

Certain: This comes from a willingness to take risk and take action.  Leaders know that action is the only thing that will create any real certainty.  They embrace that there is a "risk" either way.  To take the action or to not take action.

Assertive: Being assertive as a leader, means giving just enough information to create understanding and assisting others to understand why the action is necessary. It is a "forward-moving" communication that paves the way for action. It includes an awareness of boundaries that are clean and clear. It lets others know what to expect and why. And it ensures that action is taken according to the plan that creates the desired results.

In most organizations today, leadership confidence is critical but it must also be tempered by an awareness that, as the leader, one cannot possibly know everything that may affect the outcomes of our decisions. It is essential that each leader is aware of the limitations of their personal opinions and perceptions, so they are committed to keeping feedback open. This ensures that they have the benefit of collaborative synergy from their teams.  The more we are open to being challenged, the better our decisions will be. Leaders, who are confident with this, may be our most confident leaders of all. They trust themselves to adjust to new information and seek it passionately every day.

What are you willing to do today that will boost your confidence?  What is the one thing you have been holding back from?  Take that action today, every step counts!  Leadership Source is coming to Salt Lake City, and people are already signing up, taking a stand and creating confidence in the face of uncertainty.  For more information check out Leadership SourceWe look forward to seeing you in Salt Lake City!
