FOR THE RECORD
Being a Coach for Others:
What Does it Mean for You?
By Barbara Fagan,
Co-Founder & President

Coaching is an opportunity to be a resource for others through collaborative dialogue, while opening possibilities and creating commitment to take actions to achieve desired results. As a result of coaching, both the client and the coach gain new insights into what might be possible. Being a coach is the opportunity to "walk" with another person and find new paths together. It is not about how much you know, but about what you can create working with others from a place of contribution and connection.

Why is Coaching So Important Now?
Coaching first became recognized in the early 1990's. This was a time of rapid technology change and growth. People were curious to advance faster and break down boundaries and the "old" models of how things were suppose to look. This created a space for people who had previously been seen as consultants and experts to expand their skill sets to explore new ways to do things with their clients. Coaches use all their collective resources, people and deep listening skills, and ask powerful questions, being curious without the need to have the right answers. Coaching began to be seen as the new way to advance thinking, create new practices and generate breakthrough results. In fact, the word "breakthrough" was seldom heard like it is today.

We have come to a new cross road of change. How we work together globally, confronting the challenges both environmentally and financially is essential. We have seen evidence of breakdowns never before experienced by this generation. Again, it is a time of change and no one has the right answers. More and more people are looking for a coaching resource to walk with them and explore new ways to create change in their life.

History Does Repeat Itself in Different Ways
As we evolve and face today's challenges people still have the fear of failure and want security and clarity for their future. However, in today's climate with access to so much information and knowledge, they also want a resource that can assist in the reflecting and sorting process, and then ultimately the ability to make their own choice. This is where an effective coach is seen as a great resource.

In my experience of coaching over the last 20 years, my phone rings more often in times of stress, conflict and downturns in the economy or business. When things are going great, people don't want or feel they need coaching - only the most proactive organizations and individuals will make that investment. However, when the road gets tough is when people feel most insecure, and that's when having a reliable and steady coach will increase confidence.

Coaches come from diverse backgrounds and experiences offering clients new perspectives. While there are coaches who focus on specific areas of coaching, many coaches find themselves coaching individuals who are very different from themselves and involved in different arenas. In the early years of coaching, most coaches came to coaching with a background in consulting or psychology. Today, for example, many people are receiving coach training who work in the health care or fitness arenas.

Business professionals, service professionals, and just about anyone who loves to be with people and assist them in moving forward in their lives, make the best coaches.

LIVING LIFE INTENTIONALLY
What's All this About the Law of Attraction?
By Lou Dozier, Co-Founder & VP

The law of attraction presupposes that like attracts like. That means that as energetic beings, we emit energy through our feelings. So whatever energy (feelings) we are sending out, they are drawn back to us like we are a huge magnet. So we attract who we are. Did you read that? We attract to us who we are! That means in order to have the relationships we want we actually have to become who we want to attract.

Determine What You Want in Your Relationships
Step 1: Make a list of all the qualities you are looking for. Be very specific. Pay attention to any types of feelings that are occurring as you make your list. You can really pick-up some key insights here.

Step 2: Next, list all of the qualities you want to bring to your relationships. Be 100% honest here. No one will see your list but you.

Step 3: Look over your list and ask yourself: "What qualities do I still need to develop in order to become what I am looking for in my relationships?" "What behaviors and attitudes must I let go of?"

To create something new, we must be willing to let go of those attributes that do not align with what we say we want. So what does this really mean? It means we've got to shake things up. We've got to let go of behaviors and patterns that don't serve us attracting what we want. We need to begin to emit the energy that will attract what we want.

For example, I often hear something like this: "I'll meet my perfect guy when I lose this last ten pounds." If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that one, or had a similar thought myself, I'd be rich! The fact is that with this kind of thinking you are keeping your lover from coming in. You are saying to the universe "I'm not ready yet," and, "I'm not good enough now!" The universe always listens and delivers.

I've Got Some News for You
If the love of your life is going to stop loving you if you gain ten pounds, is that person the one you are really looking for? Don't you want someone who is going to love you unconditionally? How can you attract someone who loves you unconditionally when you don't even love yourself unconditionally? "Let's see. Maybe if I lost that last ten pounds, or if I had a better job...or lived in a nicer house..." I'm sure you get the drift.

So the real step is to learn to love yourself as you are right now. Make peace with who you are and where you are right now!
THE SOURCE INSTITUTE
Standing Powerfully for
Intentional Relationships
By Tommy Ruff, Director
The Source Institute

We have just completed our first Certified Relationship Coach Training. I am humbled and honored to see the level of commitment, trust and communication that this group of extraordinary coaches has created within their group. As I experience their authenticity and exploration of what is true for each of them in relationship, I realize they are internalizing the principles of building intentional relationships and will stand powerfully with their clients in creating intentional results in their relationships.

We received a lot of great feedback and thoughts from those who attended. Diane Navratil said,
"Participating in CRC has opened a whole new level of learning for me. Learning about myself and learning to be in relationship with myself was a truly beautiful experience."
(Read more in the sidebar at the left.)

Traditionally, CRC has been offered only once annually. If you missed it, you had to wait another year before having the opportunity to experience this profound training. I am thrilled to report that a month after these coaches complete their certification as Certified Relationship Coaches, we will be having our second CRC training September 30 through October 3, 2010. So if you missed our first training, there is still time this year! Join us to prepare to begin 2011 as a Certified Relationship Coach. Click here to learn more and/or to register.

LEADERSHIP SOURCE

Leaders Descending Upon Sacramento Again
By Kelly Mobeck, Director
Leadership Source

Leaders will be returning to Sacramento this weekend to complete Source Point Training's inaugural Leadership Source.

As the Director of Leadership Source, I feel it doesn't get any better than seeing people declare what they want, working quickly with amazing Leadership Coaches, to create their goals. This Leadership team has truly gone the distance in creating extraordinary results.

They have really embraced stretching outside of their comfort zone. How cool is that?  I am inspired, and know that as a leadership community, we are in for a treat this weekend as we come together to celebrate the accomplishments, learn even more leadership skills and declare and step into whatever is next as leaders making a difference in the world.

During the last ten weeks, some of the leaders have been in service to youth, families, leadership teams, communities and homeless human beings, and created a legacy that will reach farther than they can imagine. This is leadership giving back to others from a place of abundance. Others have gone from unemployment to creating employment (including jobs that are fulfilling and exciting); defined career paths; completed graduate school semester in alignment with GPA goal; created healthy living lifestyles that included significant amounts of weight lost; overcame fears and created increased self-confidence and learning; increased financial savings; deepened family relationships; launched a blog; moved into a new home; and create better personal boundaries while increasing self-care. These are just some of the results that were created. The bottom line is they wanted them and they created them!

This is what occurs when you realize your leadership and take action it. The Sacramento Leadership Team has loved working with the leaders and look forward to working with them as they step into the future.
