What inspires you to teach?

My early inspiration to teach was the realization of how much my teachers meant to me and the positive impact they had on me.  My continued inspiration is the opportunity to work with young and talented students.  I am both grateful for and at times awed by that responsibility.  However, it is a work that if done with sincerity and effort is always rewarding.

What is your most memorable moment in teaching?

Mine comes from my college coaching experience.  In the first round of the NCAA tournament, we (Middle Tennessee State University) defeated the University of North Carolina.  As the 13-seed, we were the biggest upset of the tournament.  Our locker room was filled with an indescribable emotion.  Each face wore the look of "though no one thought it was possible, we knew we could do it."

What are your hobbies/outside interests?  What else would you like the Gatewood family to know about you?

I enjoy working out and playing golf.  I have two little girls, and spending time doing most anything with them and my husband is as good as it gets for me.  I am a huge football fan and enjoy watching NCAA games on Saturday and NFL games on Sunday.  I am very aware of how blessed I am for my family at home and my family here at Gatewood.

First Grade Presents Aesop's Fables
01.29.10 - 1st Grade Play
Thursday morning, first grade presented a skit based on four fables from Aesop to an auditorium filled with fellow students, family and friends.  The fables included 'Belling the Cat', 'The Tortoise and the Hare', 'The Grasshopper and the Ants' and 'The Wide-Mouthed Frog.'  Mrs. Joan and Mrs. Juliet were so happy with the students' performance.  Thank you to all of the parents who worked hard helping to design the set and costumes.
MS Fall Athletic Assembly
Middle School students participating in fall sports were honored Thursday during an assembly at school.  Students were praised for their hard work and dedication both on and off the field.  Players from Cross Country, Cheerleading, Softball and Football were honored.

100th Day of School Celebrations

Wednesday officially marked the 100th day of school for the 09-10 school year.  Students celebrated with a variety of activities during the day.  During PE, kindergarten made a 100 on the gym floor as well as other "100" activities.  2nd grade also held 100th Day Activities.  They ate 100 mini-marshmellows (one at a time, of course), held a bubble gum chewing contest and built a 100-cup tower.

Mrs. Juliet Turns 40

Thursday, Mrs. Juliet walked down the hall to her classroom to find funny phrases regarding old age flanking her "tombstone" on her door.  Fellow preschool teachers dressed in all black and even made Mrs. Juliet a special "40" shirt.
