          Digger on the Mend

 Sex: Male

Color: Black

Age: 3 years

Cats: TBD

Three year old Digger made the trip from Florida in a "dog truck" with a fractured hock (ankle) on December 3rd. His injury occurred during a race on November 18th. A local vet had splinted the leg, but the temporary fix didn't fit properly and it was removed. Digger made the whole ride (24+ hours) without any support on his damaged leg. The good news is he made it to GRR and was seen immediately for proper bandaging and pain management at Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center. Digger had surgery on December 6th where Dr. Rob Hart implanted a plate to secure Digger's hock. Today, Digger is on the mend in foster care with Karen and Desi Marcelynas and Dr. Hart reports he's healing beautifully and is very optimistic for a complete recovery. Karen reports that he's one of the sweetest dogs around and she's enjoying watching him learn the ropes of pet life, albeit on restricted activity.

Sunshine Sarah

 Sex: Female

Color: Brindle

Age: 2 years

Cats: TBD

Spritely Miss Sarah will be three on January 27th and she certainly lives up to her name bringing a new ray of sunshine every day.

Sarah seriously injured her leg during a race in West Virginia on October 22nd. GRR was contacted to see if we would pay for her surgery in WV as the break was too severe to transport her without the repair. Fortunately, because of our special needs medical fund, we were able to say yes and Sarah had the surgery needed to put her leg back together.

Sarah's repair didn't go as expected. The skin to close the incision didn't hold and Sarah had to have post-op care in WV until two weeks ago when she made the trip to NY.

We've been changing bandages every other day and I'm happy to say that the wound has finally healed. Sarah still isn't putting any weight on her leg so a consult was done with Dr. Matt Palmisano at Norwalk Veterinary Referral Center. More good news! Sarah is now bandage free. We'll be doing physical therapy for the next month, but there's a good possibility Sarah will need additional surgery in the near future.

She's in excellent hands and will receive the best of care thanks to GRR!!

From Rags to Riches

Shaula

Sex: Female
Color: Black
Age: 3 years
Cats: TBD

Just over a year ago, three year old Shaula was found in an Ebro Florida racing kennel, managed by trainer Ron Williams, clinging to life, emaciated and with duct tape wrapped around her neck so tightly she could barely breathe. 32 of her kennel mates were already dead of starvation and dehydration. Shaula, affectionately known as "Squirt", was one of five survivors.

Today, after a year of rehabilitation and being held in Florida as state's evidence in the trial where Williams was found guilty of 39 counts of felony animal cruelty, "Squirt" made it to GRR!!! She was greeted by volunteers waiting to give her all the loving she deserves. She will be in foster care for a short period of time, but this personable lady, with a lust for life, will soon go to her forever home.

She is truly home for the holidays.
