Director's Dialogue
Scott

As you may have heard in the news, or perhaps just noticed the different picture to the left, there has recently been a change in leadership here at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. Let me introduce myself - I am Scott Hinderman, A.A.E, the new Executive Director of Airports.

Just last month in March, Mr. Torrance (Tory) Richardson, A.A.E., resigned from his position as Executive Director to accept the position of Vice President of Government Affairs and Strategy for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. Tory worked as the Executive Director of Airports for the FWACAA for eight years and accomplished many things in his tenure. I had the pleasure of working for Tory for the last five years, and he was a great mentor from whom I learned much. Tory will be greatly missed, but I am eager to take on this new role and look forward to being part of the continued success and commitment to this great facility.

Prior to this new appointment, I worked as the Director of Operations & Facilities here at FWACAA for five years. I served as airport manager at the Cheyenne, Wyoming airport and was director of operations and maintenance at the airport in Peoria, Illinois prior to moving to Fort Wayne. Before beginning my civilian career, I served in the U.S. Marine Corps. My service was focused in Marine Aviation, mostly flying helicopters, and I left the service as a Captain in 1993. My degree is in Aviation Administration from the University of North Dakota, graduating class of 1989.

I would just like to say that the staff at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority and I are proud of the service we provide to our community and will continue to do our best for the Northeast Indiana community as a whole. If you have any questions about Fort Wayne International or Smith Field airports, please feel welcome to call me. I look forward to serving you all now and well into the future.

Sincerely,

Scott D. Hinderman, A.A.E.

New T-Hangar at Smith Field Now Complete

The Airport Authority is pleased to announce that construction is now complete on a new 12-unit T-hangar facility at Smith Field, fulfilling the airport's growing demand for more hangar space. A formal ribbon-cutting and open house ceremony was held on March 29th at SMD, where local community leaders, Smith Field tenants, Airport Authority staff, and construction partners met to celebrate its completion.

Smith Field now has a total of ten hangar units of various sizes and configurations, allowing enough space to store 68 aircraft. The new hangars are located just west of the existing Ivy Tech Aviation Maintenance Technology School off Ludwig Road. A new aircraft parking ramp will also be constructed to support the facility. Most of this work is eligible for funds under the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.

The current T-hangar development project is consistent with Smith Field's FAA approved land use plan at the airport. The plan also includes an additional two rows of T-hangars just west of the new facility. Airport officials hope that this future development will be soon, but the project will follow a demand-based process. To see more pictures from the ribbon cutting event, visit the album on the Airport's Facebook Page.
