Hi , Well, eventhough we're not exactly having the warmest summer here in Oly, I sure am grateful for summer goodies from the garden.
Okay, I just cannot get enough cucumbers these days. I am a cucumber monster! It's crazy how there is such a vast difference between a cucumber and a fresh, in season cucumber - wow! I'm just bummed that my cucumber plant died from rot awhile back due to unseasonable weather. :-( Good thing for awesome local farms with amazing produce! Phew!
I hope you enjoy the 'Simple Summer Spa Treats' recipes inspired by, yes, the cucumber! Good thing all the recipes are pretty much edible!
In service and gratitude,

PS: Shawn and I are making preparations for
our Burning Man trip at the end of this month. Burning Man is a week
long camp out gathering of 40,000 plus people in the middle of the
desert in Nevada. Radical self reliance and radical self expression. We are SO looking forward to breaking in our camper
that we have been working so hard on lately! Here's a before & after shot...

QUESTIONS ANSWERED...
How often should I get my haircut? The standard guideline for getting your hair cut is every 6 - 8 weeks.
Here are some more specific guidelines:
To maintain a shorter style, 4- 6 weeks To maintain a medium to long style, 6 - 10 weeks For keeping it healthy while growing it out, 8 - 12 weeks
I have to wash my hair everyday or else it gets greasy. Why does it get greasy so fast? Actually this may be happening due to over washing. When hair gets washed too often, your scalp can be thrown out of balance and start to overproduce oils. If you're a daily hair washer, try every other day or every couple days. It could take a couple weeks or so for your scalp to get back into balance - be patient. (Another possible cause could be the shampoo and/or conditioner you are using...try a balancing shampoo and a lightweight conditioner like Uspa's Tahitian Lime Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner.)
Conditioner? But my hair gets so limp when I use it. It's important to use conditioner to keep your hair healthy. Shampoo opens up the cuticle layer of your hair and cleans up inside of it. Conditioner moisturizes the cuticle and seals it back down. When you don't use conditioner, you are leaving your hair prone to dryness, frizz, and damage. Look for a conditioner that is very lightweight and will not weigh your hair down. (Uspa's Tahitian Lime conditioner would be a good option.)

Simple Summer Spa Treats!
I Love Cucumbers! Cucumbers are a cooling and refreshing vegetable (actually a fruit). Cooling and refreshing to eat and also on your skin too! So you know about putting cucumber slices on your eyes, right? Well, they are actually beneficial for the rest of your skin too. Cucumber can relieve sunburn, swelling under the eyes, and dermatitis. It's juice can also help improve your complexion - taught skin, close pores, remove blemishes, and rejuvenate. Apparently Cleopatra was a fan of using cucumber for her skin. Cucumbers are an excellent source of silica - a trace mineral that contributes to the strength of the body's connective tissue that holds our body together.
CUCUMBER APPLE MASK
(*This makes a lot - enough for your whole body! Super frothy and cooling - and yummy when it drips into your mouth! If you just want enough for your face try a Tbsp each of cucumber & apple, 1/2 an egg white, 1/4 tsp lemon juice, & some mint)
1/2 cucumber, peeled 1 egg white 1 teaspoon total lemon and/or lime
juice 1 quarter of a whole apple a few mint leaves Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Refrigerate the mixture for 10 minutes. Apply a layer to
face and neck area. Leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.
CUCUMBER PARSLEY MASK 1
TBSP Plain yogurt 1
TBSP Cucumber, peeled 1
TBSP Parsley Process ingredients in a blender, food processor, or just peel and grate the cucumber, finely chop the parsley, and combine the two w/ the yogurt. Leave on skin for 10 - 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.
CUCUMBER HAIR MASK
(Especially good for swimmers! This is great treatment for after swimming in a
chlorinated pool. Helps keep chlorine damage to
a minimum.)
1
egg1
half-eggshell's worth of olive oil (i.e., one portion of the eggshell you
broke apart)1
quarter of a cucumber (peeled)
Blend the egg, olive oil
and peeled cucumber in a blender or food processor until smooth. Spread
evenly through your hair and leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse well. (For
year-round swimmers, continue this treatment monthly.) (Let me know if you have a topic you'd like me to include in upcoming newsletters. I am always open to your questions, ideas, and feedback!)

Coco Cream
Okay, seriously, Summer in a jar! ;-) This stuff is SO yum! I dare you to try to sniff it ONLY once!
Key Ingredients:
- Organic
Coconut Oil: High in antioxidants that penetrate into the underlying
tissues of your skin to prevent and protect against the formation of
free radicals (which break down your skin's connectives tissues as you
age). Will also soften and moisturize your skin, as well as aid in
removing the outer layer of dead skin cells making your skin smoother
and more evenly textured with a healthy "shine".
- Cocoa Butter:
the ultimate moisturizer, has been used to keep skin soft and supple
for centuries. It is one of the most stable, highly concentrated natural
fats known, and melts at body temperature so that it is readily
absorbed into the skin; often recommended for treatment of skin
conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. When applied topically, it
creates a barrier between sensitive skin and the environment and also
helps retain moisture.
- Vanilla
Extract: exhilarates the brain and uplifts the spirit, calms and
soothes away emotional tension in the form of anxiety and stress. Long
