Culinary Tips of the Week

Brian Reeve, Home Cook
Keep nuts in the freezer -- Nuts contain lots of oil, so if you don't store them properly, they will go bad. Keep them in an airtight container in the freezer, and they'll stay fresh for several months.

Chef "Tee" Terrell Danley, Restaurant Owner/Consultant I am in love with Olive -- Not a woman. The company All Things Olive that sells flavored olive oils and vinegars. Plain olive oil tastes great, but the flavored stuff is amazing. You'll taste the difference immediately on breads, pastas and salads. Grapefruit, blood-orange, roasted garlic and rosemary, Meyer lemon olive oils--you name, All Things Olive has got it. Click here to learn more about the company. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chef Lauren Von Der Pool, Vegan/Raw Food Cuisine ExpertSpecial Exotic Fruit Series Part 2: Star fruit or as they say in the Caribbean "Five Finguh" -- This tropical fruit (pictured below) tastes like a combination of pineapple, apples and kiwi. Rich in vitamin C, it's named "star" because when cut across the middle, the slices look like a star. You know the produce is ripe when it is mostly yellow and the ridges are brown. No need to peel it. Just wash, slice and eat. Star fruit also makes a great garnish. Standout ingredients -- love and beer! Brian says that these ribs would be nothing without Chef "Tee" Terrell Danley's suggestion to bake them first.
