Culinary Tips of the Week

Brian Reeve, Home Cook
Bread bowl -- This is a great alternative to a traditional serving bowl. It's creative, looks great, and you can eat it. Cut off the top of your favorite round loaf. Scoop out the soft bread inside, leaving behind the bowl. Fill it with soup, dip or salad and enjoy! Don't discard the bread that you scooped out. Use that to make croutons or bread crumbs.

Single serving dishes -- These are great for desserts, vegetables, sides and nuts. Use single serving dishes for an intimate get-together or a dinner party. They add variety and make your guests feel special. You can often find them on sale or at the dollar store. Click on saltandpepperchefs.com to see how I use a single serving dish for my Apple Pear Crisp with Dried Cranberries recipe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chef Lauren Von Der Pool, Vegan/Raw Food Cuisine Expert
Agave nectar -- This natural sweetener is a healthy sugar substitute. Its syrup consistency is a great alternative to honey. I love it in tea. It is also delicious in baked goods like cookies and cakes. Try it on pancakes or drizzled on top of a sundae. Agave nectar is available in health food stores. Home Cook Brian Reeve Running man in March 2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home Cook Brian Reeve is training for the Yuengling Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA on March 21, 2010. He was inspired to run and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society last year after his friend was diagnosed with lymphoma. Brian had to drop out a week before the race due to a knee injury, so he is planning to run this year to fulfill his obligation to his sponsors and himself. Click on www.shamrockmarathon.com to learn more about the race.
