Culinary Tips of the Week

Brian Reeve, Home cook Mashed cauliflower--If you are tired of mashed potatoes, try cauliflower. It's a great substitute. Just steam the cauliflower, then mash it by hand or in a food processor. Add sour cream, half and half, garlic, salt and pepper or any ingredients you typically add to your mashed potatoes and enjoy!

Chef "Tee" Terrell Danley, restaurant owner/culinary instructor Sticky pasta--Folks often ask me, "how do I keep my pasta from sticking?" Very simple. Don't worry about pouring oil into the water because water and oil don't mix. What keeps it from sticking is to have a nice rolling boil. When done, drain the pasta then drizzle a little olive oil on top for great flavor.

Chef Lauren Von Der Pool, vegan/raw food cuisine expert Primrose oil--This oil has essential fatty acids for the body. Studies show that it helps reduce hot flashes and some of the other negative side effects of menopause. Other benefits include regulating menstruation, lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure. You can take it in capsule form or add a tablespoon to your salad, oatmeal or smoothie. Primrose oil is available at most health food stores.
