Culinary Tips of the Week

Brian Reeve, Home cook Save your wine corks--My wife Stephanie and I love wine, but we get tired of throwing away the wine corks. Now, Steph shows them off in a large glass bowl as a table centerpiece. I use some when storing my chef's knife. I cut the sharp edge of the knife into four wine corks to protect the blade. European style butter--This butter has more fat and less water than the standard U. S. brands, giving it a creamier, richer taste. Less water also means better baked goods. For example--cakes that rise higher, flakier pie crusts and scrumptious cookies. If you are worried about the extra butter fat, don't. It's just a little more. Besides, if you are going to use butter, use the best.

Organic Pink Himalayan Sea Salt aka White Gold--This salt has great flavor, and it's good for you. Use it in place of your favorite salt in dishes to promote a healthy pH balance in the body. Some of White Gold's benefits include regulating sleep and blood pressure, preventing muscle cramps and strengthening the libido.
