"I had a great time!"

That's what one of our kids answered when asked how her summer was - and, of course, she was running past, full of energy for the next activity, as she answered. Our full-day summer program ended a few days smilesago with an overnight lock-in at St. Mary's Health and Fitness Center.  This summer our kids experienced swimming lessons, saw  magicians, went on lots of field trips, grew  vegetables, learned about various professions, performed in a talent show.... well, "I had a great time" probably sums it up best.

Thank you to everyone who made the summer for these 65 inner-city kids a better one.  Their lives are richer because
of your support and prayers. We had 1,577 volunteer hours this summer - you made this a great summer for our kids.

Football Time
We had some special visitors spend time talking and playing with the kids last month - some members of the University of Tennessee Volunteer Football Team. After talking about the importance of studying and planning for the future, it was play time - and everyone had a great time.  For the full story from the News Sentinel, click here. Be sure to watch the video in the story as well - you'll feel the excitement all the kids felt that day.
Back to School
child studyingCan you believe it's time for school?  Our kids sure can't.  But know that they are well prepared and ready to learn, particularly when they are at the Wesley House.  80% of our kids made honor roll last year - in schools where the average grades are Ds and Fs, according to the Tennessee Department of Education website. We need your help to keep our kids on track. If you would like to be a part of our work by volunteering with kids after school, contact us at 524-5494. We particularly need folks who can help with homework and tutor one-on-one as needed with kids.
Friends and Donors Breakfast
The Wesley House's largest annual fundraiser is just around the corner.  Our Friends and Donors Breakfast will be on Friday, August 13, at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, 7 AM - 8 AM. We will highlight the work of Wesley House and some of the children will provide entertainment. If you would like to join us, contact us at 524-5494 or angelia@wesleyhouse.com.

You can make a financial gift anytime by mailing your check to Wesley House, 923  Dameron Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921 or by clicking the link below.

Lunch Time!
As September approaches, we need groups to provide lunch on Fridays for our community seniors - this is a program we don't highlight as much, but it's vitally important to our neighborhood.  We provide fellowship, lunch, and fun to some of our community's seniors during the school year.  If your group can provide lunch, particularly during September - please contact Sharon at 524-5494.

We also need lunches provided to the kids during fall break, which is October 14 & 15.  Since school is out, they will be with us all day on those days and we need to make sure they have a nutritious lunch. Again, please contact Sharon if you can help.
