How's your summer going? Ours is great!

Our summer program is in full swing and very busy! Each day we swimming 2010
have about 65 kids with us and in addition to the "regular" summer activities (playground, swimming lessons, occasional DVD movies), our kids are learning every day.  Upcoming themes include "Around the World" week where they will learn about different cultures from visitors from various counties; "Music Appreciation" week where they will see and hear bagpipes, a harp, guitar, and other instruments; and, "Reading & Book" week where everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favorite story book character.  It's a full day, every day, and our kids are having a wonderful summer; How's your summer going? If you need a pick-me-up, come by and visit us sometime.

Your Gifts to Wesley House

For those of you who have been a Friend and/or Donor for the last year or two, I bet you have noticed some changes occurring. We have a new logo, new letterhead & envelopes, and new business cards. Our kids this summer each got a T-shirt and backpack bag with the logo on it. We have a new computer lab for the kids and in August we are refinishing the floor in The Big Room and renovating the Boys & Girls restrooms downstairs. So where does this money come from?  Is my donation being used for these things?

Unless you specify that your donation is for a specific project like building renovation, Senior Citizens program, or our music program, all donations are used directly for our after-school and summer tutoring programs. When we do building upgrades and "printing" projects, we either find grants or sponsors to fund these items so that no money is taken away from our primary goal of helping the children and families in the inner-city communities.

Anytime you have a concern or question about your gift, please feel free to call me at anytime. We are more than happy to show you exactly where and how your gifts are being used to help these children become better students and leaders.

 Happy Birthday!
Remember your birthday as a kid?  There was always a cake, maybe ice cream, a few friends came over - it was just pure joy to celebrate. Many of our kids at Wesley House don't even have a cake on their birthdays.  We would like to celebrate "A Summer's worth of Birthdays" in July with a large sheet cake.  We'll make sure each child whose birthday is in June or July feels special at this summer birthday party.  If you can help by providing a full sheet cake for this event, please contact us at 524-5494.

Friends and Donors Breakfast
The Wesley House's largest annual fundraiser is just around the corner.  Our Friends and Donors Breakfast will be on Friday, August 13, at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, 7 AM - 8 AM. We will highlight the work of Wesley House and some of the children will provide entertainment. If you would like to join us, contact us at 524-5494 or angelia@wesleyhouse.com.

You can make a financial gift anytime by mailing your check to Wesley House, 923  Dameron Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921 or by clicking the link below.
