"The contents of a library can take you further than your own imagination could begin to imagine. To open a book is to open your mind." ~ Amberle Cianne
"I have been ineluctably drawn to libraries ever since I entered that sanctum sanctorum. It was a place of quietude. In a world where things go beep and ding and ring, where you've got mail and you've got messages, when I enter a library, I feel that I am still entering a temple."
~ Carmen Agra Deedy
"After proper food, shelter, and love, there is nothing more important to a child than a library. It certainly was the most important place to me in my childhood."
~ Tod Davies

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and staff who helped to make the library's 30th anniversary celebration a real success! Once again, the sun shone on us and we welcomed many families in our children's room where face painting, balloon animals, crafts, clowns, and popcorn were in full force. The week-long series of programs led up to Saturday where the Friends organized a successful book sale. Storytime Stage, introduced by WHUD's Tom Furci, entertained children and their parents. Town Board member, Richard Clinchy delivered the Town's proclamation declaring the day dedicated to the Library's 30th anniversary in Reis Park. Finally, all enjoyed a beautiful sheet cake, a harp and horn concert by the Reits, and a discussion of the full history of the Somers Library. I want to give a special thanks to our sponsors: The Friends of the Library, Library Board of Trustees, the new Somers Library Foundation, Dr. Bridgham, Putnam County Savings Bank, and Bedford Auto Body. Happy birthday in Reis Park, Somers Library!
