swallowed tail kiteMEMBERS-ONLY Brown Bag: Swallowed-Tail Kite Outing
3rd time's the charm (we hope!)

Saturday, July 31, 8:00am - 2:30pm

The Swallow-tailed Kite is one of the most spectacular birds of prey in the world, and we are fortunate that South Carolina is part of their very restrictive North American breeding range.  We'll head to Allendale county where the birds are visible from the roadside with close views rarely seen anywhere else.  While we missed them the past couple of tries, John Cely has been down to scout them out and is confident they'll be there on the 31st!

painted buntingLand Protection Update

Currently working on 4 new easements, protecting 1500 acres

These easements are in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Kershaw and Lee counties. Two are managed with a heavy emphasis on wildlife and feature abundant game and nongame populations including South Carolina's most beautiful songbird, the painted bunting.  The third is a working farm consisting of nearly 500 acres, and  the fourth is being managed as a natural area and includes more than a mile of riverfront on the east bank of the Wateree River near Camden.  In addition to these 4 in progress, there are several other possiblities we hope will come to fruition by year-end.

To learn about protecting your property with a conservaiton easement, contact John Cely, CLT Land Protection Director.
