Household Chemical Waste Collection Event

SWALCO will hold its third Mobile Household Chemical Waste (HCW) Event of the season in Lake Zurich. Mobile HCW Events are held from spring to fall at locations around the county. Appointments are not required for Mobile Household Chemical Waste Events. Residents from around the county may simply come to the mobile location, drive through, and drop off their HCW materials. Tollway Council Recommends Moving Forward With Route 53 Corridor Project
The Illinois Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council has approved its final report recommending the Illinois Tollway move forward with an Illinois Route 53/120 Corridor project in Lake County. The group includes local elected officials, transportation and planning agencies and a diverse group of environmental, civic, business and labor representatives. The report will be presented to the Illinois Tollway Board of Directors in June. Co-chaired by David Stolman, Lake County Board Chair, and George Ranney, President and CEO of Metropolis Strategies, the Advisory Council's work focused on answering three primary questions: Is there consensus to move forward? What are the scope, configuration and design elements of a new roadway? And, how should the project be financed? Learn more:

Treasurer Discusses Property Tax Bills
Property owners have received their property tax bills and the first installment is due Wednesday, June 6. The property tax process is a state mandated function. By state law, Lake County is responsible for the collection of taxes from property owners and the distribution of these property tax funds to more than 200 taxing bodies, such as cities, townships, county, park and fire protection districts, and schools (which account for 68% of your tax bill).

Find Lake Michigan Beach Advisories Online
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Lake County beachgoers can access daily information on Lake Michigan beach advisories and swim bans through the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Web site by visiting the Health Department's beach advisory page. Beaches may occasionally close due to high levels of bacteria. As a result of stormwater and sewage runoff. Throughout the summer, the Health Department's Environmental Services samples 12 beaches along Lake Michigan four days per week. The web page is updated daily by 10 a.m.

Ribbon Cutting for the LCHA Affordable Housing Acquisition Program
The foreclosure crisis has resulted in numerous properties being vacant across Lake County, which can lead to the destabilization of a community. Lake County, and other partner organizations, including the Lake County Housing Authority (LCHA), have worked to purchase foreclosed properties, rehabilitate them, and sell or rent them to income-eligible homebuyers. Recently, Lake County officials joined LCHA to celebrate the first home purchased under its Affordable Housing Acquisition Program. Affordable Housing Corporation Offers Assistance to Lake County Homeowners
Forgivable Loans of up to $25,000 for Families Facing Foreclosure
 The Illinois Hardest Hit Fund offers families facing foreclosure some much-needed breathing room while they get back on their feet. Eligible Lake County residents may receive up to $25,000 to help bring their mortgage current, and to assist with ongoing monthly payments for up to 18 months. Eligibility criteria can be found online at www.illinoishardesthit.org, the official website of the program. Lake County residents will work with the Affordable Housing Corporation of Lake County (AHC), a HUD-certified nonprofit agency, to receive free guidance and loan coordination services. There is no cost to apply. AHC also offers information sessions and other helpful information at 847/263-7478 and www.ahclc.org. Falling Behind on Your Mortgage Payments? Pre-foreclosure education classes and free confidential counseling is available from AHC to help homeowners understand their rights and options pertaining to foreclosure alternatives available to you.  West Nile Virus Hotline Activated The Health Department has re-activated the West Nile virus hotline for county residents to report dead birds, report areas of stagnant water (which are conducive to mosquito breeding), or to obtain more information on the signs and symptoms of West Nile encephalitis. The West Nile virus hotline number is: (847) 377-8300. Healthy Lake County As warm weather draws you outside, be aware that there are a few potentially harmful things to look out for such as ticks, which can carry Lyme disease, mosquitoes, which can carry West Nile virus and bats, which can carry rabies. The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center offers tips to help you stay healthythis spring and summer. Vaccine Requirement to Address Resurgence of Whooping Cough To address the growing cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, the state of Illinois has a new requirement for school entry. Students entering 6th and 9th grades for the 2012-2013 school year will be required to provide proof they have received a dose of the Tdap vaccination in addition to the physical exams required for students entering those grades. The parade will proceed west on Main Street to Old Rand Road and end at the Veterans Memorial on Mohawk Trail, near the police station.
Please join us in honoring our armed forces that are serving now and our Veterans that have bravely served our country in the past. Following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial to pay respect to past and present veterans. Lake Zurich Lion's Club Yard Sale June 2-3
Sell Your Stuff!
Items that are seldom or no longer used, but take up space in your house, are called "Stuff." Now you can sell that without going through all of the promotional expense of running your own garage sale. Instead, just take it to the Lake Zurich Lions Club's "World's Biggest Yard Sale" on June 2-3 in Lions Park, downtown Lake Zurich.
Net cost for a 10 x 15 square ft. space for the entire two-day period is only $35. Registering is easy, simply click here then apply. Once you have completed the form and paid the fee, a Lion will contact you with your booth space information. The Lions Club does not supply tables or chairs for people selling things in the park, and since this is a two-day event, there is no rain date.
