AMERICA RECYCLES DAY

Saturday, November 19, 2011, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

RECYCLE

America Recycles Day (which is November 15) is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. It's a great opportunity to educate about the importance of recycling and to motivate people to make a simple difference in their own homes and communities, that reaches beyond. It's an opportunity to get neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together and, to continue our endeavors 365 days a year. In light of our mission and goal here in Lake County to increase recycling to 60% by 2020, as well as the Illinois landfill ban on electronics which will begin this January 1, 2012, it's a perfect time to provide resources and opportunities like these.

FROM THE LAKE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

HEALTH DEPARTMENT SURVEY UPDATE

You will recall that a few weeks back I asked for your help in completing a survey being conducted by the Lake County Health Department. The message below is from them thanking you for your help.

Thank you to the more than 2,600 individuals who responded between Sept. 19 and Oct. 21 to the Lake County community survey, which is one of four main assessment tools being used to identify and understand health needs in Lake County. The survey sought to gather the thoughts, opinions, and concerns related to health from people who live and work in Lake County. This information will provide insight into the issues of importance to the community as well as provide an understanding of community perceptions regarding quality of life in Lake County and the strengths of the county related to promoting health.

In addition to the survey, there will be other assessments, including interviews of community members. An inventory of community assets related to health promotion and disease prevention is also being compiled. A report of the Community Themes and Strengths Assessment will be made available to the public within the next few months.
