Lately there has been a great deal said about Lake County finances. Please take the time to watch the video link below to learn how the County is managing its budget and trying to keep our taxes from going up. We just learned we have once again received a AAA bond rating and we have developed a balanced budget for 2011 which reduces costs by at least $9,000,000. We continue to look for ways to save our tax dollars.

Feel free to forward this newsletter. It's a great way to keep everyone up to date on County news and local events while helping me "GO GREEN". If you have any comments, suggestions or questions, please call or email me.

OLD McHENRY ROAD

Old McHenry RoadI'm pleased to report the re-paving of Old McHenry Road between Midlothian Rd. and Quentin Rd. is in its final stages! The ride over the CN Railroad track by St. Matthew Lutheran Church is smooth and bump free! It's too bad this project took so long but as I've pointed out before, it was due to circumstances beyond Lake County Department of Transportation control. Thanks for your patience and please drive carefully!

VOTER INFORMATION

Voting By Mail Proves Popular for 2010

Any registered voter can vote by mail and more than 7,000 voters have chosen this option before the first day to mail ballots. Lake County voters can make a one-time request for ballot by mail for the November election, or enroll in the Permanent Voting by Mail Program online at the County Clerk's website at VotingByMail.info or by calling (847) 377-2406. Enrolling in the permanent program saves your tax dollars as it reduces the number of ballots needed for Election Day. The last day a ballot can be mailed to a voter is Oct. 28. Once a voted ballot is mailed back to the Clerk's office, voters can visitLakeCountyClerk.info to track our receipt of the ballot.

MOVE Act Designed to Help Military and Overseas Voters

Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act is recent federal legislation requiring every state to send military and overseas voters their ballot no later than 45 days before any election. This earlier date is to ensure voters will have enough time to receive and return their ballot via postal service.

Illinois law permits a ballot arriving within the 14 days after an election to be counted if the ballot is postmarked prior to Election Day. The MOVE Act also requires states to provide electronic ballots when requested.

Lake Voter Power Link

Responding to the "One Click Rule" for savvy web surfing, LakeVoterPower.info gives Lake County voters one-click access to all election information after confirming registration at one's current address. The Voter Power landing page offers links to districts serving your address, current elected officials, candidates running for office, your sample ballot, voting site information, online ballot by mail request and track ballot's return to the County Clerk.

Voter Information Guide

The Voter Information Guide is published in local newspapers approximately 30 days before every election. The guide offers a complete listing of all candidates and public questions for November's election. Addresses and hours for Early Voting sites are listed on the back cover. Election Day voting sites are sorted by precinct and have their address listed. Helpful facts and questions and answers about elections are also included.

Early Voting Still Growing in Lake County

Check WhereDoIVote.info for your early voting site, as well as, to see a picture and get driving directions. Voters must first enter information to confirm registration at their current address.

ADA Equipment at all

 Voting Sites

Every Early Voting and Election Day voting site is equipped with an ADA-compliant voter assist terminal allowing visually impaired or physically disabled voters to mark their ballot unassisted. Privately, the ballot is displayed on an easy-to-read touch screen, or voters can choose the audio function with headphones and have spoken instructions and ballot choices read to them. Each voter can determine font size, contrast or volume setting. Other features that empowers all Lake County voters include Braille embossed keypad, sip-and-puff tube, and wheelchair accessibility.
